• We finished the second quarter in the midst of a most interesting weather week and now we are ready to rock it in the third quarter. Our third and fifth graders took their Reading SOL Winter growth test this past week. Fourth grade will take their test on Monday. Then, we move to Math. Parents will be able to see results in Parent Vue. Report cards will be sent home on February 2, 2024.
• We are looking forward to seeing our families at our annual Wellness Night event this week. See below for more information.
• We are going to have another Spirit Week this week so see below for the specific days.
• The 100th day of school will be February 2, 2024. Students can dress as if they are 100 years old or from 1924 or wear something with 100 items. There will be lots of 100th day activities.
• Do you want to help in the cafeteria during lunch? Then, check out the Lunch Sign Up Genius form! Remember- all volunteers must complete the volunteer form linked below.
• The Reams PTA Board will be meeting this week to plan the family dance in February.
• We are excited to share that all of our fourth graders received a National Park pass, which is available to all fourth graders in the country. A Reams parent shared contact information which helped us make it happen. Check out the photos below.

• Our attendance this past week took a hit from the late delays and the early dismissal. We really need all of our students here, even on early dismissal days. Our goal is 95% attendance each day.
• We appreciate parents letting us know the reason for absences. We can celebrate that we have very few unexcused absences.
• Our overall percentage of chronically absent is around 16% this month. This is definitely better than last year. It impacts school accreditation and we appreciate the support in making sure students are in school.

• Students in grades 3-5 have begun to take the mid year SOL growth tests. Students will take these tests in the morning so it is important for students to be on time to school. Lunch time may be adjusted for some grades due to testing.

• Reading- 4th 1/22

• Math- 5th 1/23; 4th 1/24; 3rd 1/25

• We are looking forward to seeing our students' growth at this point of the year!

• We will have our annual Family Engagement Wellness Event, "You Do the Math" on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 with the following activities from 5:45-7:00 p.m.:

• • Swingers Jump Rope Team will perform at 6:00 p.m.

  • See how far you can jump, can you toss the balls in the bucket, and how many times can you jump rope in a minute.

  • Healthy Snack

  • Check out an extra book from the library

  • Activities in the Gym

The goal is to raise $2,500 for the American Heart Association but more importantly it is to help families learn Hands-Only CPR. Did you know Hands-Only CPR can double – even triple – a person’s chance of surviving a cardiac arrest? Did you know most cardiac arrests happen at home? Our goal is to help all families learn Hands-Only CPR. It’s quick and easy to learn and could save the life of someone you love. You’ll learn this lifesaving skill when your student completes Finn’s Mission. And when just three participants in your student’s class complete Finn’s Mission, the class will earn a free Recess Kit and every student will get a Kids Heart Challenge heart hero character.

• Please be patient during the car line. We will wave you on if there is a delay in the line. Please do not pass without being waved on by a staff member. Please help us keep the line moving by having your child ready to go.

PTA School Store Fundraiser:

• This is the easiest fundraiser of all! Just register your child online and return the form with the online code. Then, your child will be given a cool prize. The best part is School Store offers an opportunity for teachers to receive funds towards classroom resources through donations.

• All fundraisers are optional.

PTA Meeting:

• Our next P.T.A. meeting will be on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be virtual. The meeting link is on our school calendar.

• Free dental cleanings on Feb. 3: Glowing Smiles Dentistry is offering free cleanings, fluoride and sealants for children from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 3. The dental office is located in Suite 120 at 9097 Atlee Station Road in Hanover County.
