A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA
Dear Jaguar Band Families,
With our shortened week behind us we look forward to a regular week of school, rehearsals and Friday night lights. This week we have a number of items happening of which we want to make everyone aware.
First are grades and how they impact eligibility! The guidelines for the first nine weeks where grades are concerned have been lightened, and students have been allowed to redo or submit missing assignments from as far back as the first day of school! Not only were they allowed to submit those assignments late, they were allowed to receive up to 100% credit! Our band staff has even given time during the band classes to allow students to complete or make up assignments! It is imperative that our students stay on top of their academics! If a student has a failing grade for ANY class on this progress report they will lose their eligibility on Friday, October 23 at 4:30. If they have a failing grade of 60 or higher in an AP or Pre-AP class they may be eligible for a waiver. Any student that is ineligible can not participate in extracurricular activities for 3 weeks! If anyone has questions about eligibility please contact Mr. Lucita, and he will help explain the details.
Next is our extended video production time. This week we have until Thursday to get everyone’s videos submitted! A new deadline of Thursday, October 22, has been arranged. Also, an additional set of instructions and links were sent out on Friday through email and remind. Please make sure all students follow those instructions carefully and get their video submitted! We want this project to be a huge success!
This week is Up-&-Coming! Students are allowed to wear mums to the football game; however, they must be taken off for the halftime performance. All mums are to be worn around the neck or arm, NOT pinned to the shirt. There is also an Up-&-Coming Jaguar Jamboree car parade on Wednesday. Due to the nature and size of this event we are soliciting only a small group of band student volunteers to perform at this event. Those students will receive detailed information this week concerning times and performance.
Just a quick reminder to our students that are auditioning for the TMEA District, Region, Area and All State process! Those auditions are rapidly approaching which means your Applied Music period, Master Classes, Private Lessons and Perfect Practice are crucial to your success! Take advantage of all of these opportunities!!
And, last but not least!!! We are going to be adding on to our “JOHNSON: this is us” show and it is imperative that everyone is at the rehearsals! We need everyone there and on time, ready to go. If you are not at rehearsal, you can not learn the new portions added therefore you can not perform during the halftime performance. Our student athletes must catch up and are responsible for anything they may have missed due to their Thursday games!
As always, we want to say THANK YOU to our parent volunteers that help make our program great!! An extra thank you to the parents that built and installed the best Cymbal Cabinet on the planet!!! Let’s have another great week and Go Jags!!!
Have a great week,
Mr. Lucita
Our awesome new cymbal storage! Thanks, parents!

Sign Up to Sell Spirit Gear at Games
We need volunteers to help sell our Johnson Swag during football games. With limited fundraising opportunities due to COVID, selling at games is a great opportunity for us to raise funds that can help support the Jaguar Band.
You will be working with someone who is in charge of the cash box and who knows what to do. The only requirements are that you bring a fully charged cell phone and have the Square App on your phone so that you can charge customers. Please know that the Spirit Gear table is open for as long as you are busy/selling items. For the first game, we sold right through until the game ended, but for the second game, we closed down during the 4th quarter.
Email Carmen Sifuentes at vpfundraising@johnsonbands.com if you have any questions.

Up & Coming Game (Instead of Homecoming since JHS doesn't have any graduates yet!)
Rookie Corner
October 23 "UPCO"
Johnson High School is only in its second year, so we don't yet have any graduates. This means we don't yet celebrate a Homecoming weekend. However, we DO celebrate an "Up & Coming". Band and Color Guard members may wear small mums to the game; however, they may not be pinned or attached to their uniforms. Around-the-neck mums work well. Mums also may not be worn during the halftime performance. October 23 will be our 2020 Up & Coming game, so check Facebook and JHS school newsletters for more information!
Volunteer !
You don't have to be a "veteran" member to volunteer for a committee! In fact, with such a young band, it is important that rookie parents step into roles early - just like our students are having to do! We will start preparing for the 2021 marching season this Spring, so please know that we will be reaching out via email soon! Or better yet, let us know if you have any particular interests by filling out our Committee Interest Form!
Football Program Ads: Celebrate your student! Promote your business! It's not too late!!
Missed the deadline to submit your celebration ad? Well, it's not too late! We are still taking orders for FOOTBALL PROGRAM ADS and ask all of our band families to share this information with friends and acquaintances. Ads submitted before the next printing deadline (generally Fridays) will be included in the next weeks program. For details and templates, click here.
Order a personal ad to celebrate your student in this year's Jaguar football program! These programs are a great keepsake and is open to all Johnson students. Your personal ad will be featured in every home Jaguar football game program published this season! The football programs are also great advertising space for local businesses!

Football Game Information: Volunteering, Live stream games, Reserved parking, and Jag Swag!
VOLUNTEERS
Please know that we LOVE how many parents are offering to volunteer this year to help with pit crew. Unfortunately, due to COVID and in order to follow district safety regulations, we have been limited to only eight people that can be designated as Pit Crew and receive free admission to the games.
Please know that other parents can assist with any unmet pit crew needs or chaperoning RR breaks but those volunteers must purchase a ticket and will not be able to return to stand seats after assisting. Ticket-holder pit crew or chaperone volunteers must remain with the band.
- All volunteers at Shelton games must purchase a ticket. (*this requirement does not apply to the designated 8 Pit Crew volunteers)
- ALL volunteers will be required to fill out the COVID protocol google doc listed on the athletic booster website on the day they volunteer. This MUST be done for every game.
- All volunteers must wear a mask at all times.
- All pit crew and chaperone volunteers located near the band must wear their issued band volunteer shirt.
- If volunteers arrive during school hours, they will also be required to check-in at the school front office. The front office will verify that volunteers filled out the form.
Pit crew volunteers should contact Clover Clamons at pitcrew@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and to obtain their volunteer shirts
All other volunteers, including chaperones, should contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and obtain their volunteer shirt.
Watch Live Varsity Games
The band will only perform at "home" games (and the Lehman "away" game). Fans can watch all home and away games at http://vypelive.com/web/team/view?id=6600. Please feel free to share!
Reserved Parking Spots
The South parking lot at Shelton Stadium is a reserved parking lot for Varsity Games. We are selling the reserved parking spots to anyone who might want one. This will guarantee you a spot until kick-off. All information regarding the parking spot is located on our website.

Band Sponsorships and opportunity to put Student names on trailer!
The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band! If you would like color copies of our Sponsorship Brochure, we are happy to provide them.

A new addition to our Sponsorship options is the Friends and Family Level. This level offers various options for businesses as well as an option for band families: For $200, you can have your child’s name and graduation year on our band trailer indefinitely with the option to simultaneously add sibling name for an additional $100.
