Superintendent's Message
Dear HUUSD Community,
It is a privilege to serve as the HUUSD’s superintendent and have the opportunity to work with truly remarkable young people. While watching each student being awarded their diploma this past Saturday, I was reminded that over 1600 students walk through the doors of our schools each day. Regardless of their background, they all look to our school staff for hope and encouragement. Knowing the importance of our public school mission, we believe it is our foremost responsibility to provide the best support possible for every child in this community.
Last Saturday’s HUHS graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 was the culmination of 13 years of hard work for our students. It is also the byproduct of the tireless efforts of all of our Harwood educators, support staff, and administrators. During the ceremony, the student speakers recounted highlights of their school years, reflected on lifelong friendships, and also commented on the support they received from their families. Each student who walked across the stage to receive a Harwood diploma is a remarkable individual with individual strengths and endless possibilities for a successful future. We are incredibly proud of this class and wish them all the best as they enter this new chapter of their lives. For full coverage of the HUHS graduation ceremony, see the article from the Waterbury Roundabout.
As we conclude the 2023-2024 school year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parents as well as all community members for your support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mike

CBMS Spirit Week
Learning in Nature at Fayston
Learning in Nature continues to be a focus for students across all grade levels. Whether it’s pond exploration, writing poetry, hatching chicks, or learning about bees, nature is truly an inspiration!
Field Day at Moretown
Mother Nature played some tricks on Moretown's Field Day, but students still enjoyed several outdoor activities, including water balloons, tennis, fishing, a sponge challenge, slackline, and more.
BPS Bike Day
More than 200 children and adults gathered in Rusty Parker Park from BPS and CBMS to enjoy the early summer weather and get some fresh air and exercise before the school day began. Many thanks to Duncan McDougall, Bill Minter, Carol Baitz, Waterbury LEAP, Waterbury Rec, BPS/CBMS staff, and guardians for their support with the event!
6th Grade Field Trip at Warren
The Warren School 6th grade enjoyed a celebratory field trip that included rock climbing at Petra Cliffs, a luncheon cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen, and laser tag/bowling. Long-time grades ⅚ classroom teacher Elizabeth Tarno is retiring this year, so this was an extra special trip for everyone involved!
