Please Be Courteous During Drop Off and Pick-Up
During morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal, the traffic can become challenging to navigate. As a school, it is our responsibility to safely welcome and dismiss over 600 students on our campus daily. Doing so requires some procedures that help things run as smoothly as possible. If we all work together, we can ensure that all students are dropped off without harm in the morning and are safely connected with their grown-ups after school.
While some of these procedures may not be as convenient for each individual as they would like, the goal is to provide an effective system for safe arrival and dismissal. Please be sure to follow these procedures to ensure everyone's safety!
ARRIVAL:
When students arrive in the morning we ask that you pull up to the loading and unloading zone (red curb area) and stop in the right lane. Once stopped, students should exit on the curb side & proceed into the building or the playground, depending on whether they will eat breakfast or not. Students should only exit cars on the curb (red zone) side for their safety. Cars in the left lane are to continue moving and not stop. If there is not a place to pull up on the right side of the U drive, families should proceed to the parking lot to let their students out of the car. Anyone crossing traffic should do so through the cross-walk. Adult supervision is available in the crosswalk from 8:00-8:35 daily.
THERE IS NO PARKING in the LEFT DROP OFF LANE! The right lane (closest to the curb) with the red marking is for drop off and pick-up only. The left lane is to keep traffic moving. Dropping of students in the left lane poses a huge safety issue for our students. Children darting between cars are at risk of being hit.
If you feel that you are too hurried and cannot wait for a drop-off spot in the right lane to open up, please park in the lot briefly and have your student cross at the cross-walk.
Adults on duty outside will stop you and ask you to pull to the right to drop your student off. This is for their safety. Please be courteous to our staff members trying to keep your children safe.
DISMISSAL:
Students will be dismissed out of their assigned "zone" or doorway. Families are encouraged to park in the lot and walk to the assigned zone to retrieve their students. The right lane in the U drive is utilized for pick-up. The left lane is to stay moving at all times unless stopped by the crossing guard.
Students will not be permitted to enter cars in the left (moving) lane for their safety.
Please make a plan for pick-up with your student(s) that is consistent so that they know each and every day what they are supposed to do. Families with multiple siblings are asked to have the older siblings pick up younger students from their zone and meet their grown-ups in a pre-determined location each day.
If you are exiting your car for any reason, you will need to park in the parking lot. Families waiting in the drop-off and pick-up lane (red curb) should remain in their car at all times. Once your student(s) have gotten in the car, please merge to the left lane and out onto Rebecca Street.
Dismissal Doors:
Kindergarten: Playground
1st Grade: Front Doors
2nd Grade: Mid-Field Playground Gate
3rd Grade: Mid-field Gate
4th Grade: North Art Door
5th Grade: Front Doors
Conditions for Learning Survey
All Iowa public school districts are required to administer an annual school climate and culture survey to students in grades 3-12 called Conditions for Learning Survey. The survey is designed to measure their engagement in school, safety, and the overall learning environment. The survey will be administered to students in early April.
In April, parents and families of students in preschool through grade 12 will also have the opportunity to participate in the Parent Conditions for Learning Survey. The survey contains similar items to those on the student survey, focusing on areas that range from student safety and positive adult and student relationships to school rules and how they are enforced. Participation in the survey is encouraged, but it is completely voluntary, and all questions are optional to answer.
Please watch your email for more information on the survey.
