Mountie Motors AIVD Team Makes a Podium Finish at Prestigious IVD Competition!
The Mountie Motors AIVD team from Northwest High School roared into success at the Square One Education Network's 14th annual Innovative Vehicle Design (IVD) Competition held at Kettering University's GM Mobility Research Center on May 3rd, 2024.
This prestigious competition, the culmination of a year-long STEM program, brings together student-built autonomous, connected, and electric vehicles. Facing off against over 70 teams from across Michigan, the Mountie Motors AIVD team impressed the judges with their ingenuity.
A Showcase of Excellence
The team's robot stood out for its creative waterproof design, innovative sensor integration, and remote control capabilities. This innovative design, coupled with exceptional autonomous performance, propelled them to a second-place finish in the Overall Performance category.
Beyond Engineering: Presentation Prowess
The Mountie Motors AIVD team's talents extended beyond engineering. Led by senior project manager John Horvath-Frias, the team secured a first-place win in both Presentation and Perfect Pitch. Mathew Horvath-Frias delivered a compelling pitch that resonated with the judges, further highlighting the team's well-rounded skillset.
John's outstanding leadership throughout the program earned him a well-deserved $500 scholarship from the Intelligent Transportation Systems of Michigan.
Building a Brighter Future
"We are incredibly proud of the Mountie Motors AIVD team," said Randi Watts, the team's advisor. "This competition showcases their dedication, problem-solving skills, and passion for STEM. This student-driven program is a cornerstone of our Mountie Nation, fostering valuable skills they'll carry into their future careers."
Northwest High School: Cultivating Innovation
Northwest High School is committed to providing a strong foundation in STEM education. We offer programs that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and a passion for innovation. The Mountie Motors AIVD team's success is a testament to this commitment.
A Special Thank You
The Mountie Motors AIVD team extends their gratitude to U-Haul of Jackson Michigan for their generous trailer donation, and Vista Grand Villa Senior Living Facility for collaborating with the students and contributing to the program.
