Prestons Post
Term 3, Week 9
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our Term 3, Week 9 newsletter. What a wonderful week of celebrations and community connections we have had. Thank you to Mr Bui and the team for organising a fabulous Multicultural Day for us last Thursday. It was great to see so many colourful cultural costumes on the day, proudly worn by students to celebrate the cultures that they come from. For 2024 Cultural Diversity Week, our theme is "Our Shared Stories - Celebrating Together." This theme invites us all to come together and celebrate the many different experiences that make our community special. It’s a chance to see how our different backgrounds and stories come together and make our community special.
Celebrating Diversity
Following on from our highly successful Multicultural day, it is timely to introduce Mrs Kane as our Anti-Racism contact officer (ARCO). Racism is not tolerated in NSW public schools or department workplaces. A range of anti-racism education resources are available to support school communities and workplaces and Mrs Kane has engaged in training to ensure she is well equipped to play a critical role in countering racism in our school. It is great to work and learn in a great school like Prestons where everyone works together and celebrates the many different cultures that come together to make our community so fabulous.
Approaching Students
I once again need to remind all families that adults must not approach students at school (or on the way to or from school). If you have any concerns about an issue regarding your child, please contact the school so that we can promptly address your concerns and ensure that all students continue to feel safe and happy at school. Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and happy.
Swim Scheme
Our students attending swim scheme have started off the week really well. Miss Hunt and Mr Montgomery are so proud of them and their wonderful safe, respectful behaviour. Well done to these amazing students for representing our school so well.
Road Safety
We have had some very concerning issues around our school in relation to road safety;
- Cars using staff carpark driveway to do illegal u-turn.
- Cars cutting in front of other cars in the Kiss and Ride line.
- Cars parking in no stopping or no standing zones.
- Cars illegally doing u-turn in front of the Kiss and Ride zone.
Please be aware that unsafe driving around our school not only endangers your child, but also the lives of other children are put at risk. Unsafe and illegal driving behaviour will be reported to the police.
Thank you for driving safely around our school and keeping all of our kids safe.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.
Mrs Van Der Meulen

Tell them from Me Survey
This term, our school is participating in the Tell Them From Me Survey. Running this survey will help our school understand parents' and carers' perspective on their child's experience at school. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online using smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 5 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential.

PSSA Championships
This week Cohen represented Sydney South West at the PSSA Championships where he came 2nd.
As a result, Cohen has been selected to represent NSW at the National PSSA Championships in Cairns in October.
What an amazing achievement.
While this is a great experience for Cohen, it is also quite costly. Cohen and his family are selling raffle tickets to subsidise his costs. If you are able to support Cohen, the raffle tickets will be available for purchase in our front office. Tickets are $5 each with great prizes. Every raffle ticket sold benefits Cohen and his family directly and any support is greatly appreciated.
