4TH GRADE NEWS
Fourth Grade Summer Learning
Here are some ideas for keeping school skills sharp over the summer:
If your child has not yet mastered basic multiplication and division facts yet, they should continue to practice. They can also work on any of the unfinished pages in their math journal.
Set aside time to read every day. Starting or ending the day with a good book also helps your child maintain a daily routine. When your child tells you they are bored, send them to the library! Encourage them to try a new genre or series, rather than reading the same ones over and over.
Logins for the websites we use at school do not expire until the end of summer, so they can also visit the sites we use during the school year.
5TH GRADE NEWS
MUSIC NEWS
The fifth grade music classes will be learning about Jazz music. Music classes are working on improving their note reading skills on the treble clef staff. We will be reviewing musical elements from the previous quarters. The fourth grade is looking at the families of instruments. Each week there is a worksheet to complete and turn in by the next music class. The worksheets are a review and practice of the music ideas we learn about in class.
Remember if you are remote learning check your google classroom. Each week there will be lessons and assignments posted on google classroom under the music topic for your class. Please complete the lessons each week. Your music grade will include the remote learning assignments.
5th Grade Band
Band lessons have begun and are sounding great. Remember to sign up for the google classroom 5th grade band class. I post videos and reminders on the site. Summer band camp is being planned for July 6-8 and July 12-15. More information will be posted soon.
Beginning Band for next year’s 5th Grade(2021-2022)
We are planning to start next year’s 5th grade band over the summer with our band July 6-8 and July 12-15. Beginning Band information will be sent home the week of May 3. Instrument rental will be an online process this year due to covid. Any questions please send me an email at LZiegler@wcusd5.net.
A WORD FROM OUR READING TEACHER, MRS. JONES
Your child has learned a variety of different literacies this year… from technological to print literacies, your child has navigated with grace. This allowed them to GROW. We, at Gardner, are so very proud. This summer we would like to see that continue….summer Reading is ESSENTIAL!!!
Some summer reading activities could include:
bedtime read alouds
book scavenger hunts
pass-the-book shared reading,
a family book club
a mini book report
or independent reading
Making sure your child has time when their "eyes are on the text" is so important to maintaining the growth they made this school year. Have a great summer and enjoy reading!!!!
