Parent Newsletter - August 4th - 17th, 2024
Message from the Principal, Ms. Miranda
Dear Pirates,
Welcome scholars and families to 2024-2025 school year! We are exicted to begin this journey together and looking forward to fantastic year ahead. Our faculty and staff are eagerly awaiting to welcome our Pirates! We kick off the new school year with our inspiring theme, "BELIEVE." This theme encapsulates the essence of our commitment to fostering a supportive and empowering environment for every student. We believe in the potential within each scholar.
The first day of school is Monday, August 5th. Parents will be allowed to walk their child to class on the first day only. Our doors will open at 7:15 AM for parents. After the first day, we will have faculty and staff assigned to different areas around campus to assist our Pirates in finding their classroom. If your child is absent on the first day of school, he/she will be DROPPED.
We are appreciative of the opportunity to serve the families #TeamSISD and hope to continue the strong partnership between home and school. On behalf of the Myrtle Cooper faculty and staff thank you for entrusting your children to us!
Sincerely,
Ms. Miranda
Proud Principal

- All visitors will be checked in using the Hall Pass system at the entrance of every campus.

- All campus doors are locked and access to building with staff badge only.
- Police officers and security guards on duty at all times.
- Security cameras that are monitored at all times.
ATTENDANCE is VERY IMPORTANT at The SHIP!
Attendance
We want our STUDENTS in school ON-TIME, EVERYDAY!!
- Breakfast in the classroom starts at 7:30 - 7:45am.
- Tardy bell is at 7:45am - As parents it is your responsiblity to get your child to school on time.
- If your child arrives after 7:50 AM, you child must be signed in by an adult in the office.
Reporting Student Absences on Skyward
- Parents will need to submit an excuse note as an attachment through Skyward Family Access Absent Request.
- Parents may add absence requests for their child to indicate a day or range of days your student will not be in school. Add absence requests for your child via Family Access instead of being required to send a note the school to enter an absence request on your behalf.
- For example, if your child will be out sick for the day, or if your child will be gone due to a family emergency, you can enter an absence request to indicate these details.
- After parents submit their absence request, attendance specialists can then approve it in Skyward which will automatically code the student’s attendance record.
- We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator. If interested, please contact our CIS Coordinator, Jackie Montes at jmontes24@sisd.net.
- Chaperone school dances, assemblies, field trips etc.
- Assist teachers in preparation of bulletin boards and/or duplicating instructional materials for classroom use.
- Teach a craft or hobby, talk about your occupation, share cultural and ethnic background and experiences.
- Help with clerical needs in the school office.
- Assemble distributions.
- Complete projects at home for school use.
Remember you must complete a new background form every new school year. Please be sure to choose Myrtle Cooper and any other campuses you wish to be cleared for. Please follow the link below.
