Message from IBW Business Manager, Erica Caldwell
Hello Ida B. Wells Families,
We are thrilled to announce that the Portland Public School Board unanimously voted to put a $1.83 billion bond measure on the May ballot. If this bond passes, Ida B. Wells High School will finally get a new, modernized building!
As the school's Business Manager for the past 17 years, I've seen firsthand the challenges our students and teachers face in our current building. A new school would mean:
- Relief from extreme temperatures in classrooms
- Common Meal Space large enough for the entire student body
- A modern auditorium with comfortable seating and good acoustics
- Two gyms to accommodate our growing athletic programs
- Upgraded Career and Technical Education programs with state-of-the-art tools
- School Based Health Center
I am incredibly passionate about Ida B. Wells High School, and I know this new building would make a huge difference for our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at ecaldwell@pps.net or 503-916-6142.
Sincerely,
Erica Caldwell

Help Fill the Pantry
Our awesome IBW social worker needs help supporting students by stocking up on snacks to offer to kids throughout the day. The shelves are bare! Consider throwing a few extra things into your cart as you do your shopping. You can send an on-line order directly to the school c/o Britni Locke, or do a porch drop off at my house and I'll get it to her (address and more details in the link). volunteersignup.org/QHDKM

Winter Formal & Semester 1 Attendance Requirements
We want to remind all families that our Winter Formal is on Saturday, February 8th at the Crystal Ballroom. Students' Semester 1 attendance must be 90% or above to purchase tickets for the dance. Attendance will be calculated on January 24th, the last day of Semester 1. There is still time for students who are below the 90% threshold to improve attendance!
Data shows that our attendance initiatives related to dance attendance is one of the reasons that Ida B. Wells has seen an increase in all student attendance compared to last school year! We are proud of our students and look forward to celebrating with them at Winter Formal.
Tickets will go on sale after January 24th. Stay tuned!
