Dates to Remember
Families Learning Together Event
Please join us for our final Families Learning Together event for this year. D70 parents/caregivers are invited to please join us for an important meeting from 7-8 p.m. on May 22nd at 7:00 pm to learn about environmental safety initiatives within our district. This event will be held at the ERC (1381 W. Lake St).
Jeff Camplin from Camplin Environmental, Stacey Bachar, D70's Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, and Supt. Rebecca Jenkins will be presenting. They will outline ongoing efforts to assess environmental safety and will discuss the collaborative work with the Lake County Health Department. Don't miss this opportunity to stay informed. We look forward to seeing you there! In order to plan ahead for space considerations, please RSVP via this Google Form if you plan to attend.
D70 Music Award
We are pleased to share that District 70 has received a national honor - a Best Communities for Music Education Award- for the second year in a row.
D70 is one of 32 school districts in Illinois to receive the 2024 designation and one of 975 school districts across the county.
This award is given by NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) and is based on various rigorous criteria including depth of curriculum, variety of music course offerings, music courses offered during the school day for 30 or more minutes, and a ratio of certified music staff with advanced degrees.
Congratulations to our talented students, staff, and families for their commitment to music in District 70 and for being named one of the best communications in the nation for music education.
STEM Week
AFA STEM Week 2024 is in the books! A huge thank you to the 32 parent volunteers who facilitated a STEM activity in their child's classroom, and to staff for making time for these hands-on experiences. Students were also treated to an all-school assembly with fun science demonstrations (Leora vs. the World at tug of war!). A special thank you to Mr. C. for the use of his space, and to Carmen for setup and cleanup! The AFA is already planning improvements for next year.

Learning Center Updates
All Library Materials Due May 24
The last day to borrow books and other materials from the Adler Park School Learning Center is May 17. Everything checked out by students is due by May 24. Thank you for your help ensuring your child's library materials are returned on time so we can complete our inventory and have our full collection available for summer checkout.
Summer Checkout of Adler Park School Learning Center Materials
Interested students are invited to check out books from the Adler Library collection to read over summer break!
There are many benefits to children reading all year long. Students read regularly during the school year, so we want to be sure everyone keeps reading during the summer. Each participating student can check out as many books as they want for the summer. The books will be due back to the library no later than Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Just as we expect students to take good care of the books they checkout during the school year, we expect they will take good care of items that are borrowed for the summer. Families will be responsible for the cost to replace any late, lost or damaged books.
Fill out the book check out agreement, due at 8:00 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Students will check out their summer books that week. Please fill out a separate form for each child. Note that your child's library account must be in good standing to participate. If you sign up, and your child's account is not in good standing, I will let you know.
