Principal's Message
Dear Students and Families,
With only 7 weeks left in the school year, there is a lot to do, so please read all the information below!
Attendance Month 9
Due to Spring Break, this attendance month is only 10 days long and concludes this Friday, April 18th! To remain eligible for Independent Study, please ensure you earn at least 9 out of 10 attendance days. Check with your teacher to find out how many attendance days you have earned so far!
Student Progress
At this point in the school year, it is critical that students are focused on completing their classes successfully. Students should be well on their way to completing 30 credits this semester by the end of the school year. If you are enrolled in online classes and your daily or weekly progress report indicates a RED progress bar, please know that you are at-risk of not passing that class! Students should be dedicating at least 6 hours a day towards their schoolwork and/or come in more often to meet with their teacher for extra support.
Community Service:
This week we are hosting a canned food drive through the Community Mission of Hope. Bring in non-perishable and non-expired canned goods to earn community service. Every 5 items equals 1 hour of community service! Drop off your canned goods in Room 2 with Mrs. Washko.
CAASPP Testing - JUNIORS ONLY
Juniors, CAASPP testing is scheduled for Monday, April 28th - Friday, May 2nd. Students will test in three subjects: English, Math, and Science. Juniors will need to CLICK HERE to sign up for the day/times they will test. We are confident our students will reflect the hard work and dedication they have shown in their studies and do phenomenal on the CAASPP! Additionally, students earning a "3" or a "4" on the CAASPP testing (meaning that met or exceeded the standards on those exams) qualify to get graduation credit for English and Math courses that they have previously failed! That's GOOD NEWS!
Graduation:
SNHS's graduation ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 PM on Friday, June 6th, at the Great Oak High School Stadium. Seniors, please closely monitor emails from our school secretary, Gloria Dixon, AND THIS NEWSLETTER for detailed information.
End-of-Year Schedule:
Open your calendars and mark these important dates:
Friday, May 23rd: Complete all coursework
Friday, May 30th: Complete all unit exams and finals.
Note: These are tentative dates. Check with your teachers for their specific class end dates.
That’s a lot of information! Let's work together to make these last several weeks a success!
Sincerely,
David Schlottman
Principal

CAASPP Sign Ups April 2025
Susan Nelson High School will administer the CAASPP State tests from April 28th to May 2nd.
All high school students in grade 11 will participate in the English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science state tests. Students in grade 12 who did not complete the Science portion of the state tests (CAST) last year, will complete the test during their senior year; Seniors who need to take the CAST test will be notified by the school. TVUSD and SNHS encourage students to do their best on the state exams. The purpose of the state exams is for students to demonstrate proficiency towards grade level standards.
New this year: Students in grade 11 who score a (3) ‘meets’ or a (4) ‘exceeds’ standards on the English Language Arts or the Mathematics section of the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment will earn credit toward a high school diploma for a previous failed course. The credit earned will not exceed ten credits per subject area.
At SNHS, we want to provide students with an appropriate testing environment to do their best on the test. Therefore, during testing week, students will not meet with their teachers for their weekly appointments in person. All students are expected to continue making progress in their courses during the testing week at home for attendance.
All 11th-grade students need to sign up for three testing time slots for CAASPP testing. Please sign up for your three testing sessions by April 18th, 2025.
Directions for signing up for CAASPP testing:
Find your teacher’s name
Select three time slots/ days
All time slots are 3 hours long. Students can leave school once they have finished the subject tests for that day.
