Weekly Wildcat
September 8, 2024
Dear Families,
School is officially in full swing, and all of our special programs, with the exception of Impact, are up and running! This includes PE, music, special education services, PUSD VAPA Vision and the full curriculum. Students are indeed fully engaged.
As we continue to experience high temperatures, we want to reassure you that we are taking steps to ensure everyone's health and safety. When temperatures reach or exceed 90 degrees, we make adjustments to outdoor activities. Please encourage your children to stay hydrated and seek shade whenever possible.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mikels

Sundance Office Updates
Office Updates
What a great start to the school year! Thank you for the huge effort in getting your child to school on time!
LOST & FOUND: We have had a couple of searches for lost items. Having your child’s name on the item helps us reconnect them to the proper owner. We do have a Lost & Found cart for jackets, water bottles, etc. that can be accessed after school. Please come through the office if the cart is not out front. Small items are held in the office.
EMAIL / PHONE UPDATES: If there are any changes to your address, email address or phone number, please let the office know right away. You may make changes through your MyPlan portal on your emergency contacts or contact the office and we will make the changes.
FORGOTTEN ITEMS: Occasionally it may be necessary to drop off a forgotten item. If so, it may be dropped off at the front counter. Please your child’s name and teacher or room number. We will let the teacher know and they will send your child up when they are able. If your child does not have their lunch with them, they will be offered the school lunch.
General office hours are 7:30 - 2:45. We are always here to help and look forward to another great year.
If you have any questions, please email Joni Gilbert (jgilbert@powayusd.com)
Attendance
Please be sure to spell the student’s first and last name and speak clearly when leaving an absence message. You will also need to state your name and relationship, the student’s teacher and reason for the absence. If your child is ill, please briefly describe the symptoms.
Please report student absences on the Attendance Hotline, 858-538-9574.
If your child sees a doctor, please provide the report upon their return.
All absences must be verified by the parent or guardian with educational rights.
If you will need to check your child out during the school day, please advise the teacher by email and come into the office to check your child out. Allow time for us to call the classroom and have them meet you in the office.
Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering at Sundance, you can sign up directly with your student’s teacher. The names of interested volunteers will be given to Stacie in our front office (spenneycaeg@powayusd.com ) and she will reach out to you with the requirements.

Running Club Starting Soon!
Looking for a fun volunteer job that lets you see your kiddo with their classmates? Running Club is the perfect answer! You DO NOT need to be a runner, phew! Running Club is a program that allows the kids (1st - 5th) to run laps around the school track during their recess times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Their laps are counted and they can work towards earning mileage goals/prizes. This is a fun, healthy way for our kids to get some movement, learn about goal setting, and socialize with friends. Parent volunteers help by scanning QR codes to count laps as the kids make their way around the track. Additionally, parent volunteers help with set up and clean up. And overall, support our kids as they run! Volunteers commit to one day (or more) a week on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 9:05-10:45. Can’t commit weekly, but may be available from time to time? Great! Let us know and we can add you as a substitute to fill in on days another volunteer can’t make it. Please contact Jacki Congdon (jaclyncongdon@gmail.com) if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
