Dear KSB Wildcat Families
The first part of the 2024-2025 school year has gone by quickly and has been a busy one! It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving break is already upon us with Hanukah and Christmas just around the corner.
As a school, we are thankful for many things. Please let me share just a few of them with you:
We are grateful that our students at KSB come every day ready to learn. They provide us all with a daily reminder of why we are here and what is important.
We are grateful for our parents and families and the support that you give to your children and to our staff. Thank you for sending your child to KSB and entrusting us with their education and care.
We are grateful for ALL of our staff who work hard every day towards student success and care deeply about our students.
I hope that you can relax and enjoy time with family and friends during this Thanksgiving break. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Warmest regards,
Peggy

Things I Tell My Anxious Self
This feeling is only temporary.
This moment will not last.
I can do hard things.
Thoughts are not facts.
One step at a time.
I'm feeling scared, but that doesn't mean I'm in danger.
Worrying will not change the future.
My brain is playing tricks on me.
Just because I think it, doesn't make it true.
Slow down and breathe.
I have been through this before and survived.
Hello folks, and welcome to the 14th edition of Dorm Happenings here at Howser Dorm on the KSB campus. Our students kicked off the week with a return to dorm and the staff prepared chicken sandwiches, and fries for the students. We also had a wide assortment of deserts, and drinks for the students and then we had elementary students over to the recreation gym for bicycles, scooters and bouncy mat time. After they returned to the dorm the middle and high school students got some rec. gym time watching the Big Screen TV and listening to music. Another group of students spent time in the gym with some time on the bouncy mat, air hockey and pool.
On Monday night our elementary group spent time in the rec. Gym with Mr. Larry learning how to navigate an obstacle course, walking and riding a bike. Also how to find different sounds on the piano, and name 3 things they were Thankful for in this season of Thanksgiving. Then we were off to the cafeteria with the dorm student for a very popular meal of hamburger, fries and baked beans in the cafeteria prepared by Ms. Renee. To continue our Monday Motivational Moments after supper, I read a poem " Thanksgiving Observance" author unknown. Then we discussed some of their Thanksgiving favorites and who is Team Turkey and who is Team Ham or who would play on both teams. After supper the middle and high school boys went on a trip to the mall to do some shopping and explore the food court for deserts. It was an excellent outing and the opportunity for our students to enhance life skills in the areas of money management, budgeting and choosing food from a restaurant at the food court. It was a very comfortable night to be out at the mall.
Tuesday night the elementary students were involved in picking out more ceramic pieces and also deciding on colors for pieces. Then they listened to some Christmas music while laying games in the recreation gym. They were learning some more Thanksgiving games like Pin the Tail-feather on Turkey. Then we went to supper and enjoyed another fine meal prepared by Ms. Renee in the KSB cafeteria. After supper in the cafeteria the middle and high school girls went on a trip to the mall where they got to go shopping at various stores around the mall. The students had $15.00 to spend on whatever they wanted to buy or whatever food they wanted to eat. Some spent money in 3-4 different stores and some spent money at one store and we had some that ate and shopped. So, we had a variety of opportunities going on at the mall for the students. Many skills were presented in shopping, budgeting and communication with other people in the mall. Our group got to spend some time with a wonderful family from Muhlenberg County who were in the mall with their granddaughter, and they had lots of questions to the students about KSB. Our students and staff did an amazing job in advocating about all the wonderful services, opportunities and education they are receiving at KSB. We returned to the dorm around 8:15 and students retreated to their dorms for the remainder of the night.
Wednesday night the KSB dorm students were once again planning and discussing their excitement about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The elementary students were busy in Open gym with various games, such as building models with Legos and Knex for MR and AW along with BQ playing on the bouncy mat and playing with the radio and dancing to various Christmas songs and tunes. For supper Ms. Tamika had prepared a fine meal of meatball subs, tater tots and mixed veggies. After supper the middle and high school students were also spending time in the rec. Gym watching Back to the Future and also bouncing on the bouncy mat and riding bicycles. We also had a few students shooting basketball and inquiring about the ceramics pieces we would be making for Christmas. There were some students who also played pool, and a few matches of shuffle board with Mr. Larry and myself.
Thursday night we experienced some of the first snow fall of the year and we also had to dress for cold weather in our ventures from the dorm to the recreation gym. The elementary students spent time in the recreation gym with Mr. Larry and they continued with their Legos and Knex projects and were excited to see how they actually operated and moved when completed. MR created a windmill, and he got to actually spen move and feel the machine parts moving.
The students and staff had a marvelous Thanksgiving meal together at the dorm, the staff all made different dishes and desserts, and the students were able to eat and then play games about their favorite parts of Thanksgiving. We had lots of discussion about Thanksgiving travel plans and we also got to color fall leaves, turkeys and foxes at the coloring table.
Our dorm staff was asked to tell what they are most Thankful for this year. Here are some of their answers:
Alice Robinson- I'm thankful for my life, family and to have a job that I have enjoyed for 29 years.
Amanda DeHart- Family
Larry Rhodes- I am most thankful for my family and their health
Dollie Mclendon- I am thankful for my amazing husband, family, friends and coworkers
Lisa Fawley- I am most thankful this year for my family and friends, especially my loving and supportive husband

Just a reminder that we will be off next week as we celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday, and we wish you and your family a safe and blessed Thanksgiving season.
We will return to campus on Sunday December 1st and school will resume on Monday December 2nd.
Until next time
