A Letter From The Principal
Hello Sumner Families,
We hope everyone had a great weekend with family and friends. We have many things to celebrate during this week!
April 2nd is National Paraprofessionals Day! Let's give a round of applause to all the amazing paraprofessionals at Sumner HS! 👏 Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to our students and teachers! April 4th is National School Librarian Day! 📚 Let's show our appreciation for our Sumner School Librarian, Mrs. Jones, who helps our Stingrays to discover new worlds through books. Thank you for inspiring us to read and learn!
This week we will host our C/O 2024 Senior Townhall Meetings. On Thursday, April 4th seniors with the last name A-L will attend the 1st period assembly and seniors last name M-Z will attend the 2nd period assembly. We will review the upcoming senior dates, assessments, dress code for graduation, and more.
Looking ahead, next week on April 11th our 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the state required FAST Writing Assessment and select 11th and 12th grade students will take the CLT Assessment to earn their graduation benchmark.
Please help us get your student to school on time! We have seen a rise in the number of students arriving to school well after the 8:30 am bell. Stingrays should be on campus prior to 8:30 and have a ten-minute passing time to arrive to their 1st period class before the 8:40 tardy bell. Please plan ahead for heavy traffic and leave home earlier. Parents of student drivers please discuss the importance of being on time with your student. We want all of our Stingrays present and on time to school!
Thank you for your continued support,
Christine Wasylkiw
Principal

April is Month of the Military Child!
During April, we recognize military children for their bravery and resilience. Let's celebrate their courage, strength, and perseverance. On April 17th we will wear purple to show our support for these amazing students and their families!
#MOMC
School Library Month is a fantastic celebration of the importance of libraries in education! 📚 Let's show our school libraries some love this April by reading, exploring, and appreciating all they have to offer! 📚 #SLM

The Sumner HS PTSA Board Members Needed!
The Sumner Highschool Athletic Boosters will be holding elections for the 2024-25 Board.
The elections will take place at the May 14th meeting.
If you have students playing a sport(s) at Sumner High School you are strongly encouraged to volunteer to serve on next years' Board.
Please reach out to Mr. Ron Buffano at ronald.buffano@hcps.net to receive the information on serving on the Board.
We need proctors to help us with the over 3,000 AICE exams that students will take this spring! 🙂
The exams are "paper and pencil" and NO tech skills are needed to help.
Students are tested in larger groups, so you do NOT proctor students alone.
A short training will be provided for you prior to proctoring.
Scan the QR code below or reach out directly to kristy.baker@hcps.net.
Please make every effort to have your student present, on time, to school each day of testing.
Please consider these dates when making appointments for April. Testing rooms cannot be interrupted and there are no student sign-outs during testing times. Thank you for your cooperation!
*Testing dates are subject to change and updated information will be communicated as early as possible.

A FEW REMINDERS: Parents, please ensure your child is at school ON TIME by 8:30 am each day.
We cannot educate our students at an optimal level if they are not present in class and/or are late to school. All students need to take hold of their commitment and potential to be the best they can be for themselves...and that commitment and potential starts with being on time and present to each class EVERY DAY!

The number to be called to report an absence on the day of the absences is 813-378-8626 ext.4000.

Social Media Expectations/Policy
We wanted to remind our students and families that any type of social media disruption and/or degradation will NOT be tolerated at Sumner HS. We are requesting that parents review the below HCPS social media policy with their children. Any student found in violation of the social media policy is subject to a consequence. We ask that you support this important initiative.
Per HCPS Student Code of Conduct--
Social Media Disruption (SMD): This section was added to assist schools in addressing the increasing volume of disruptions and behavioral offenses related to the use of social media. SMD is defined is the intentional use of digital devices such as cell phones, computers, tablets etc. to send, post, or share negative/harmful content that creates an adverse impact on a school’s learning environment. Negative/harmful content can in turn cause discomfort or humiliation, or unreasonably interfere with the school’s ability to maintain routine safety and order on campus.
- This offense includes the transmission of negative/harmful content regardless of who the initial recorder was; i.e. if a student is sent the information and then in turn sends out the same information, they too are held accountable.
- This offense includes the intentional posting or sharing of messaging that is insensitive, inappropriate, harmful, and/or slanderous to individuals and/or to groups.
- This offense is not dependent upon the subject(s) awareness of being recorded.
- Negative/harmful content includes, but is not limited to: School fights, Bathroom incidents, Vaping/smoking, Hazing, Intentionally creating a disturbance, Destruction of property or Sexual conduct.
Policy found on page 58 of the HCPS Student Code of Conduct.
Student Parking Information
Students may obtain a current year parking permit by visiting the Sumner HS website PARKING PERMIT form and $20 must be paid to MyPaymentsPlus.
Students will then bring the required documents, the completed form and proof of payment from MyPaymentsPlus to the Office of Student Affairs to receive a parking permit.
Student vehicles WITHOUT a current year parking permit are subject to receiving a ticket and a loss of parking privileges beginning on Monday 8/28/23. The picture shows what a current year parking permit looks like for your reference.
