Grades!
Don't forget that any student who has a failing grade, you need to make contact with the parent either in person or by phone. Be sure to use a parent conference form after you meet or talk by phone.
If a student is passing now but starts to fail before the report card, please be sure to contact parents so they are not surprised, or hopefully can help get missing papers turned in or redo work below a 70!
Faculty Meeting This Thursday!
We will have a full Faculty Meeting this Thursday. First, Goal Teams will be reporting on their progress for this quarter. Then, we have Chapter 5 Champions helping us learn more on engage for motivation and effort. Be sure to read Chapter 5 before Thursdays meeting.
We will have lots of information to share!
Chapter 5: Creating a Strong Classroom Culture
Technique 35: Props
Effective systems and routines can also make your classroom more productive by harnessing public praise. Props - also called shout-outs and ups - are public praise for students who demonstrate excellence or exemplify virtues. Everyone responds to praise, to a crowd cheering for them and rooting them on. Making sure that it happens, inspires and is reliably on-message is one of the most productive things you can do in your classroom.
The key is to invest time at the outset to teach the students to give props the right way: Crisply, quickly and enthusiastically.
- Quick - "Three claps for Donna!" Be sure they do it quick and they give three claps!
- Visceral - Don't just use words! Students like noise and rhythm. Make sure your props have movement and controlled sounds like stomping or clapping.
- Universal - When props are given, everyone joins in.
- Enthusiastic - The tone if fun and lively. It should be a break - brief and fun - from hard work. Letting the students decide on the prop increases the enthusiasm!
- Evolving - Let students suggest ideas for props. When they think of new ones, they will not get tired, boring or obligatory

Out of district employees must do this annually. The window for transfers is Janauray 4 through February 29.

Reminders...
Be sure you have lesson plans completed for the week before Monday mornings. Lesson plans should be available and ready to go before each day starts. Lesson plans should be the road map to the learning you want your students to achieve that day and should list several key components of a good lesson, such as the skill, the purpose, the motivator or hook, what the guided or independent practice will be and what assessment is being used.
Be sure to call or text me at 817-454-6554 if you are going to be out for any reason.
Please be at your door at 7:45 to greet your students. It is important that you are in your classroom at the start of each day.
