Howbert was the fortunate recipient of a donation made on behalf of Safeway on Colorado Ave. that just had a reopening ceremony!
It is great to have local community and business partners that support students and staff.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Assist Special Education/Regular Education teachers to meet the needs of children with special needs with academics, behavior modification, personal hygiene and /or physical/emotional conditions.
SALARY RANGE
- From $17.39 to $20.79/hr.
- 7 hours daily

Halloween Celebration Costume Guidelines
Students will be permitted to wear costumes on Thursday, October 31st.
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Howbert Elementary has set forth the following guidelines for Halloween:
- Masks or face painting that cover a student’s full face is not permitted.
- No pretend, prop, toy, or facsimile guns/ weapons (swords, play knives, etc.) are allowed.
- Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence or otherwise might logically be assumed to be offensive to others are not acceptable.
- All costumes must be sensitive to all religious and ethnic groups; free from any language or symbols that target or inappropriately identify groups of students.
- Hats or wigs will be allowed if part of a costume and they do not pose a distraction to the learning environment.
- Costumes should not include items with sound effects, lights or other components which might disrupt the classroom learning environment.
- Students who wear costumes that do not conform to the costume guidelines listed above will be asked to change their clothing or contact home to acquire an appropriate alternative.
Harlem Wizards!
Mark your calendar and plan to attend the Harlem Wizards basketball game at Coronado High School. Mr. Lefere will be playing on the Holmes team!

These are the fabulous clubs that are coming up at Howbert! Please gauge your child's interest and remind them to get a permission slip from their teacher if they would like to join. Spots in clubs are very limited so please try to only sign your child up if they can make it to all of the dates and if they are truly interested in attending. Thank you!

Take a Spooky Stroll Through Old Colorado City with the Kids in Your Life
Enjoy seasonal outdoor fun and a unique reading experience for kids with our Spooky Stroll-a-Story! Read the picture book Mrs. McMurphy’s Pumpkin by Rick Walten as you walk around Old Colorado City. Each page of the book is posted at different nearby businesses. Pick up a map at Old Colorado City Library, or print one from our website, and stop by each location to read the book. While you’re there, go inside, there might be a special treat waiting for you! The story will be available Oct. 1 - 31.
The Cougars Care Corner Market
The Cougars Care Corner Market is now open for the 2024-2025 school year!
The Corner Market is a food distribution site partnered with Care and Share to help meet the tangible needs of the community.
Everything is free, you just take what you need and leave enough for others. Everyone may come on Thursdays from 3:00 - 6:00 when the Corner Market is open to the community.
The Corner Market supplies fruit, veggies*, non-perishable goods, snacks, school supplies, toiletries, hygiene products, clothing items, etc. when available.
*We have a limited amount of fresh produce but will supply what we can.
The Corner Market serves our entire community, so please utilize it!
Volunteering at Howbert!
The staff and students at Howbert love to have volunteers at the school supporting learning. If you would like to volunteer, please speak with the classroom teacher or contact the front office to share with us how you would like to help.
One of the first steps all volunteers must take, is to complete the Colorado Springs School District 11 Volunteer Application.
It is best to complete the application prior to visiting the school to volunteer.

About the Howbert PTO
Your Howbert Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has evolved from a PTA, which has been active since the 1980s and hosts many of the fun events that Howbert offers! We also facilitate the fundraising efforts for the school. With these we have provided such opportunities as:
- Family Game (BINGO) Nights
- Field Trips
- Supplies
- Tables & Shade Structures for outdoor classroom spaces
- So much more!
