๐ This week we will begin The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). This state assessment is used to assess student progress on Michiganโs standards. M-Step is administered each spring to students in grades 3-8. Student performance is described as one of four levels: not proficient, partially proficient, proficient, and advanced.
๐งก What Parents Can Do to Help Students Prepare:
Make sure that your child is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
Talk to your child about testing: Let them know that assessment is a regular part of learning. Make sure they understand why they are being tested and how it is important.
Keep state tests in perspective: Reduce your childโs anxiety about the test by reminding them that it is just one measure of learning, and another way to find out where their academic strengths and weaknesses are. Remind them of what they do well, and how they have improved with effort.
Encourage them to simply do their best.

HOMEWORK IS ATTACHED BELOW.
Students had a quiz on Friday. The grades are in the gradebook. Please check your child's math grade. Students can retake the quiz until this Friday the 26th.
In math, we are reviewing 5th grade concepts by competing in The Amazing Race! Students have teams that they will work with to complete math problems and challenges throughout the next couple of weeks. This is a fun way to prepare for the upcoming state assessments.

๐ Read 180 ๐
We continue to work on tricky phonics sounds and spelling in READ 180! Students are showing great signs of improvement going back into the text to find answers as well as growing their vocabulary. Reading progress sheets will be sent home this week for those who do not come to conferences. Be on the lookout for your student to bring it home.
As we near the end of the year, students in READ 180 will be expected to do a bit more work independently during class. As always, Iโm happy with confusion and questions. Moving forward, certain assignments in READ 180 will not have the option to be turned in late or made up. There will be a note in PowerSchool for all assignments that may not be made up outside of class. Please let me know if you have any questions at akonesko@kingsleyschools.org.

๐ฎ Spanish ๐ฅ
Your student should know how to count to 100 now! You can quiz them :) We are going to test our skills by playing a card game called "99". You can play this game in English as well! Have your child show you how to play. It involves some simple addition and subtraction. This week, we are starting to learn the countries of South America and their capitals. They will have a quiz in 2 weeks.
