DEL REY DRAGON NEWS
SEPTEMBER 2024 -Fundraisers, Events & Attendance Procedures
PRINCIPAL AVILA
Good afternoon, Del Rey Community,
I hope the change in weather brings out all the pumpkin spice dreams for Fall. Thank you all for welcoming me to Del Rey Elementary. It has been an amazing first month here in San Lorenzo. We had approximately 170 different families join us for Back to School Night!
Here at Del Rey, we have been celebrating the change in weather with our 20th day of school. Some of our staff dressed up in 1920s attire. Please enjoy the photos below. On September 25, 2024, we will have our 30th day of school, but it will be a Spirit Day for all students to wear their Sports Wear attire. Please have your student join us.
This week, we bid farewell to Ms. Bookout, a second-grade teacher, who has made the difficult decision to retire this school year. Her presence on our campus will be sorely missed, and we are grateful for her dedicated service to our school. Please join us in wishing her success in her retirement.
Upcoming Activities:
We will have our yearly Science Night on October 9th. Please join us at 6:00 p.m. to engage in Science activities in our MPR.
On October 25, 2024, our PTA will have a Trunk or Treat in the Del Rey Parking Lot. Be sure to come in your Halloween Costume.

Del Rey Counselor Jacqueline Allen
Hello Del Rey Dragons! I’m Miss Allen, the Elementary School Counselor here at Del Rey Elementary. My role is to support and guide students through their academic, social, and emotional development. I work closely with teachers and students to create a positive and nurturing environment where every student can thrive. Whether your child needs help with making friends, managing emotions, or dealing with academic challenges, I am here to offer support and resources.
A little about myself is that I am a First Generation Latina graduate with a Bachelors in Family & Consumer Sciences and Masters in School Counseling PPS Credential. I have over 18 years of experience of working with children and families. I grew up in a small town in the country on a dairy farm and have many siblings. I am passionate about helping students succeed in school and in life.
For parents who are new to having a school counselor, it's helpful to know that my role extends beyond short term individual counseling. I also lead classroom lessons that teach important skills such as problem-solving, empathy, and effective communication. I’m available to meet with students one-on-one when they need additional support, and I offer small group sessions for those facing similar challenges. My goal is to ensure that each student feels supported and understood, and to foster a healthy school environment where every student can reach their full potential. If you ever have concerns about your child’s well-being or school experience, please feel free to reach out. I’m here to partner with you in your child’s educational journey.
