Family Update
Hardin Middle School
November 8 2024
Hardin Families,
It will be winter break before we know it, and this is the time to stay focused on learning and academic growth as we work to set our students up for high school. Being a 7-8 building means Hardin has a short amount of time to prepare our students for high school - and ultimately graduation - so please keep checking on your student's progress as we near the end of the semester.
We have busy week next week with our Veteran's Day Assembly, our Fall Drama Production, and another Smoothie King order on Friday! Please see all the details below.
Student success takes all of us!

Hardin School Improvement Corner
Improved Attendance, Improved Academics, Decreased Discipline
Discipline
Did you know that the adolescent prefrontal cortex (the decision-making part of the brain) is not fully developed? We understand that brain development often leads to poor decision making, so one resource we have to help our students work through conflicts is through adult-lead mediation. Our amazing behavioral specialist - Brittany Sharkey, regularly helps students work through their problems in a peaceful manner. If your student needs help working through an issue, please reach out to Ms. Sharkey! Teaching students appropriate behaviors is a priority!
This Hardin School Improvement Corner will be a part of our weekly update where I address our three goals: Improved Attendance, Improved Academics, Decreased Discipline
Smoothie King!
Students will place and pay for their order in the foyer on Friday, Nov 15 upon entering the building in the morning. They will receive a bracelet as a "receipt" and will present the bracelet at lunch when we pass out the smoothies. They must have their bracelet to receive the smoothie. Cash only!
Hardin Veterans Day Celebration
Families, on Monday, November 11 from 7:30AM through 9:15AM, we're hosting an assembly to honor all of our school's veterans, and we'd love for you to attend. You may arrive as early as 7:15AM at the Main Office to check in with your ID. We'll print you a name tag and escort you to our gym for a light breakfast & coffee. Then, you'll be seated in our VIP section where you'll watch the assembly. Please fill out this Google Form to RSVP. Thank you! We hope to see you there.

Information from Older Newsletters
Varsity Tutors!
Did you know that the City of St. Charles School District offers FREE virtual tutoring through Varsity Tutors. Your student can find this app using Clever on their ChromeBooks, and they should be able to automatically log in based on their school Google credentials. Once logged in they can search for help in any class they are taking from a live tutor! This program has been fully vetted by our school district.
Backpack Program
We have a backpack program here at HMS. If your family would benefit from extra food items on the weekend, and you are not on our list already, please let your grade level counselor know.
Christmas Store
If you are in need of holiday assistance, please reach out to your grade level counselor so they can share more information regarding this resource.
Hardin Test Re-take Policies
For your information - Hardin test re-take policies can be found here on the Hardin website.
After School Activities!
Is your student interested in participating in after school activities here at Hardin? Please see the attachments for information regarding after school activities which start next week! Activities are held either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays and last from 2:25pm - 3:20pm. We do not have bus service from activities so students either need a ride or permission to walk home. Being involved in after school activities is a great way to connect with Hardin, and an opportunity for students to discover new interests and meet new people!
Code of Conduct
Teachers covered the Code of Conduct with students this week. It is the student's responsibility to read and understand the Code of Conduct. I am linking the handbook here so you can also read through our student expectations.
