Welcome back to a new school year at McBay Elementary!

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a framework that helps schools promote a safe environment and support students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health. PBIS often gives students three general rules: Be safe, be respectful, and be responsible.

SEL (Social Emotional Learning) focuses more on long-term emotional gains. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) focuses on positive behavior interventions on an as-needed basis. When used together, these strategies pack a heavy punch. Research shows that aligning PBIS and SEL can improve students’ emotional skills, academics, AND behavior.

How does it work?

PBIS is going to be our main classroom management tool for reinforcement of positive behaviors. students will receive points for demonstrating positive behaviors in the classroom and throughout school campus. Students will be bringing home a daily calendar with a behavior chart that outlines the point system based on their daily behavior. Every week students will receive the points earned from their daily behavior calendars and at the end of the six weeks they will be given the choice of attending certain events based on point merits as a reward.

Events will be posted on these monthly newsletters for parents to be aware of the events and dates; however, no parents will be allowed to attend these events due to limited time in hosting them.

Teachers will also have personal stores that students will be able to purchase additional items from, this will be at each teacher discretion.

Contents you will see:

Upcoming PBIS events for the Six Weeks.
Staff and students from all grade levels will be highlighted every month to show the progress of the program and for perfect attendance recipients.
Our SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program lessons will be mentioned along with tips and books you can use at home to reinforce these positive behaviors.
Different community resources will be shared for additional assistance.

Events:

9/17-9/20 - Extra Recess (each grade level goes on different days) students must have at least 75 pts to go to this event.

9/20 - Popsicles (all grade levels) students must have 150 pts to go to this event.

9/20 - Glow Party (all grade levels) students must have 250 pts to go to this event.

PTA Announcements

Special shout-out to PTA for helping fund our PBIS Events for the Six Weeks!!

Sept. 23rd - Oct. 29 - Candy Giveaway for Trunk or Treat begins! Students can bring in any size of bag of candy and receive 5pts per bag for PBIS.
PTA will also be accepting gently used costumes for kids in need of a Halloween costume.
