Steuart W. Weller Elementary Weekly Newsletter
A Message from the Principal:
September 28, 2024
Dear Weller Families:
We are going to have a very short week. School is in session Monday, September 30-Wednesday, October 2. School is closed on Thursday, October 3, in observance of Rosh Hashanah. School is closed on Friday, October 4, for a teacher and staff work day to fulfill the Virginia Department of Education's mandatory training requirements.
Our school nurse is in need of some extra clothing supplies for students. We are looking for size 6-8 sweat pants and tee shirts. Sometimes our little ones need a change of clothing during the school day. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
This week you will receive an order form for school pictures. Please check the yellow communication folder on Monday. If your child missed school picture day, we will have a make up day in November.
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up! Look for information in the teacher newsletter. If you have not signed up for a conference, please email your child's teacher to schedule a conference.
Respectfully yours,
Julia Burton, Principal
Your Support is Needed:
Our great PTO will be hosting their first staff appreciation luncheon of the year on Wednesday, October 2. We need your help to show our wonderful staff how much they mean to us. There are two (2) ways families can contribute: make a monetary donation or volunteer to set up or clean up the event. Click here to volunteer.
We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do...Do You?
Our PTO is launching the Fall Spiritwear Orders. Don't miss out on getting into the Weller Spirit with some swag to wear. See the flyer of all the great items that you can purchase. Visit the site to order quickly and easily. Deadline to order is Friday, October 4th.
Ashburn Public Library Activities:
Our local Ashburn Public Library is providing you some fun activities to do while the fall weather arrives in our area. There are some fun events happening all month long in October that students can participate in! Take a look.
Learn What Our Cafeteria Offers:
Purchasing Extras in the Lunch Room:
We offer many extra items in our cafeteria. Students have options to purchase chips, cookies, extra sides, and ice cream. Parents have options as well. If you are do NOT want your child to purchase specific items, you must email the cafeteria manager - Teresa Fernandez and specifically state the restrictions for your children.
No Glass Containers:
Speaking of Lunch Time...For safety reasons, we ask that students arrive to school with plastic or metal water bottles or lunch containers. Glass tends to be dropped and shatter. This becomes a dangerous situation. Thanks for your understanding.
Car Rider Numbers:
Parents that are picking their children up at the end of the day in our car line we need your help. We are speeding up our process and need your continued support helping your child know their numbers. Please remain in your car and help build your child build their independence. Let them open their own door and get in your car. We are also using NUMBERS ONLY to call students to their car. Please help your child remember their number provided to you on your bright green placard. Thanks for your continued support!
Family Assistance Program:
Our Family Liaison, Gladys Palomino, is here to assist families and students who experience difficulties throughout the year. Our goal is to help families meet their needs by offering an extensive list of resources both at school and in the community. Please click here for more information.
We Want You!
If you are interested in volunteering at Weller, please complete the volunteer screening application attached to this email and contact your child's teacher about your interest. Return the signed volunteer form to the office. Attention: Mr. Dolansky.
Watchdog Parents:
We are about to re launch our "Watchdog Parents" at the end of September. What is this wonderful program you ask? This is an opportunity for parents to become role models for our students. You will have the opportunity to work with classes, students, and your children's classroom throughout the day. You pick the full day or half day to commit your time working with the Wild Cats. Look for an updated announcement in an upcoming newsletter when we restart this wonderful program.
