District Highlights
Board of Distinction
We’re thrilled to share that our Shelton School District Board of Directors has been honored as a 2024 Board of Distinction by the Washington State School Directors' Association – for the seventh year in a row! WSSDA representatives were impressed with the District's strategic plan, Shelton Success, which is grounded in improving student outcomes and its initial successes.
Thank you to our amazing school board for their dedication to our schools!
Big Smiles visits Shelton!
This last week, we had the amazing opportunity to welcome 'Big Smiles' to our schools. They provided essential dental care to our students, ensuring that every child has access to the oral health services they need. 🦷💙
A big thank you to the Big Smiles team for their dedication and for making dental visits fun and engaging! We're so grateful for partnerships that support our students’ health and well-being. Let’s keep those smiles bright! 😃✨
HEAT Cooking classes wrap up
HEAT Cooking Classes met the past three weeks to complete this three-part workshop series. Through hands-on learning in the kitchen, last week, the participants learned to cook turkey meatballs, tzatziki sauce, couscous salad, hummus, and black bean brownies. This week, participants cooked a sweet potato curry, autumn salad, and homemade salad dressing. During class, participants cooked a meal with the help of a professional nutritionist, learned about nutrition labels, practiced knife skills, looked at portion control and the food groups, and gained knowledge on thrifty meal shopping and meal planning.
When asked what was their most memorable/notable feature of class, participants said, "The ability to learn healthy options and how to make food budget stretch more" and "I made my own dinner. Usually, in cooking classes, I don't get as much cooking time, and I only get to taste a small portion of food."
Thank you to the participants for showing up each week and WSU University Mason County Extn. Snap-Ed program for providing excellent (and delicious!) instruction.

Ready! for Kindergarten
What is the Ready! for Kindergarten Program?
Ready! for Kindergarten classes are FREE online & self-paced workshops for parents/caregivers of children ages birth to five years old who live in the Shelton School District. Through “play and learn” activities, these classes will give you the knowledge and tools you need to help your children get ready for school.
When and where are workshops?
Workshops are online and self-paced. You may pause and return to the workshop at another time. Each workshop takes approximately 1 hour to complete. Once you register to take a workshop, you will need to wait to be manually approved to start the workshop. Once you get approved, you will receive an email that you may start your workshop.
Once the workshop is completed, you will be prompted to fill out an online form where you can leave comments and also schedule a time to pick up your free tool kit*.
* PLEASE NOTE TOOL KITS ARE LIMITED AND FIRST COME, FIRST. Online workshops are still extremely beneficial without a toolkit.
Part 1 Workshops is open NOW - December 10
