Hansen Weekly Update
Dec. 15th, 2024
Hello Hansen Families,
Award-winning Children's author Ada Ari visited Hansen on Friday, entertaining and educating our K, 1st and 2nd grade students with her culturally immersive program - African Storytelling Reimagined. Students enjoyed listening to her read her story, "The Spiders Thin Legs", participating in an African dance session, wearing traditional Ghanian clothing, and having a chance to practice using authentic artifacts. To learn more about her program and books, visit www.ada-ari.com . Thank you, Ms. Ari, for a wonderful afternoon!
Thank you very much if you have completed our Parent / Guardian Survey! The purpose of this survey is to gather valuable feedback from caregivers regarding recent educational experiences. The patterns and trends identified from the data will help us improve day-to-day operations, inform strategic planning, and guide professional goal setting, as well as contribute to the monitoring of our School Improvement Plan and Action Steps this year. If you haven't yet, please help us improve the Hansen School by taking our Parent / Guardian Survey, clicking on the link below:

A New Edition to our Back Playground...
Recently we received a new lower-height outdoor basketball hoop for our rear playground, brought to us by Mr. Adam Hughes, Coordinator of the Canton Wellness Department. The hoop was previously at the JFK School and was frequently used there for physical education classes. The JFK was fortunate enough to receive new adjustable hoops this past summer, and Hansen elementary Wellness teacher Mrs. Moore thought the smaller hoop would be a great fit on our rear playground. Thank you to Mr. Hughes, the JFK School, and Ms. Moore for our new basketball hoop - it is already a big hit with all grades during recess time!
Last Week at Hansen...
Inspired by 2nd Grade teacher Mrs. Harrington and Assistant Principal Ms. Fahey, Hansen experienced 'Underground Staff Dress Up Week', where each day staff wore themed clothing - Monday: 'Wear Blue', Tuesday: 'Canton Day', Wednesday: 'Leisure wear day', Thursday: 'Flannel Day', and Friday: 'Mustache Day'. Below Mr. O'Hare and Mrs. Georgacopolous enjoyed 'Flannel Day'.
On Friday, 4th Grade Teachers celebrate 'Mustache Day'.....while, below, Ms. Bates' students get in on the fun!
Mr. Martin's Tech class participates in the "Hour of Code"
This week in Library/Technology we celebrated Computer Science Education Week by participating in the "Hour of Code". Computer Science Education Week is the first week of December, which was the 9th-15th this year, and it is an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and leaders in the field. The Hour of Code is a worldwide movement that aims to introduce millions of students to computer science through one-hour coding activities. Through Hour of Code, we aim to demystify coding and show that anyone can learn the basics, inspiring future interest in computer science. Students utilized tools and block-based coding activities from Code.org, Tynker, Scratch, and many other platforms that guide students to think, design, and create code using simple blocks to build computer programs and games.
