KCSD & Me
May 14, 2021: What you need to know
Face coverings still required at school
Dear KCSD community,
We want to remind families that face coverings are still required for students, staff, and visitors at schools and district facilities. That requirement is expected to remain in place through the end of the academic year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday announced that fully vaccinated adults can safely resume most activities indoors and outdoors without masks or distancing. Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said the state will follow CDC guidance, but the new guidelines will not apply to schools. Schools will continue to follow the Ready Schools Safe Learners Guidance that requires wearing face coverings and maintaining physical distancing.
Although the Pfizer vaccine is now available to youth ages 12 and older, many of our young students still do not qualify for vaccinations and those who do will likely not be fully vaccinated until this summer. Wearing face coverings, washing hands, and maintaining physical distancing in our schools remain the best ways to limit spread of the virus.
We need our community to continue to do its part if we want our schools to remain open. Please keep children home if they are not feeling well, wear a mask when required, and limit social gatherings. Currently, only 33 percent of Klamath County residents 16 years and older are fully vaccinated. If you have not yet done so, consider getting the vaccine.
