Monthly Attribute: HONEST

News

I can't believe that it is already February! This year is flying by and we are so thankful for you entrusting your wonderful children to us at Avon East. This month we are focusing on one of my favorite attributes: Honesty. At Avon East, we teach young children about honesty through a variety of effective strategies. We emphasize positive reinforcement by praising them whenever they choose to be truthful. This is seen through our Exceptional Eagle weekly awards every Friday. Clear explanations and relatable examples help them understand the importance of honesty. We also encourage open communication, discussing the consequences of lying and why honesty is essential for building trust. To make this concept relatable, this month I will use simple language, age-appropriate stories, and engaging activities that reinforce the idea of honesty in a way that resonates with young learners. Here are some things you can do at home to help promote honesty.



  • Honesty Role-Playing - Create scenarios where the student can practice being honest in a safe and supportive environment. For example, role-play different situations, such as telling a teacher about forgetting homework or admitting to a mistake. This intervention helps the student understand the importance of honesty and builds their confidence in expressing themselves truthfully.
  • Responsibility Chart - Implement a visual responsibility chart that lists daily tasks and assignments. The student can check off completed items, which promotes accountability. This method provides clear expectations and reinforces the importance of completing responsibilities, helping to reduce avoidance behaviors.
  • Peer Interaction Games - Organize group activities that encourage teamwork and communication among peers. Activities like cooperative games can help the student practice social skills in a fun, low-pressure setting. This intervention enhances peer interactions, making it easier for the student to engage honestly with classmates and build supportive relationships.
