Park Terrace Elementary
January 8, 2025 - NEWSLETTER
Greetings Park Terrace Families,
I hope that you had a good winter break. The students have transitioned beautifully back into school. We’ve spent these first few days re-establishing relationships, routines, and expectations. . . and getting back into the learning goals for second trimester.
Our new round of Spark classes has begun. Just like our first round, Ms. Conniff interviewed students to learn about their interests to bring in community members to learn new skills. Based on student interest, we are providing classes to learn board games, crafts, nature, sportsmanship, soccer, and drawing. Students then selected their first and second choice classes. We look forward to a great round of learning and engagement!
The time of sickness has arrived. As a reminder, please keep your child home if they have any of the following:
- Vomiting within the last 24 hours
- Diarrhea within the last 24 hours
- Fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher in the last 24 hours
- Rash of unknown origin
Students may not return to school until they are free from the above symptoms for 24 hours without fever reducing medications. A common cold is okay for them to attend school. We appreciate getting to see your children every day!
Literacy Night is coming next Thursday, January 16, 5:30-7 p.m. We’ll have the Scholastic Book Fair open for shopping during Literacy Night, but also during the day for students to visit. If you’d like to send money via the Scholastic eWallet, use this link to add money to your child’s account.
Our next PTA fundraiser is on January 10-12 at Jersey Mike’s at the 8094 University location. They are generously donating 50% of your sale to Park Terrace. Please mention the code PTE50 at check-out online or in person. Thanks to our PTA for organizing this fundraiser! As a reminder, we’d love to have your participation in PTA. Our next meeting will be on February 5 at 5 p.m. in the Park Terrace Clubhouse.
Stay warm and I hope the year is off to a good start!

Park Terrace PTA needs you!
The Park Terrace PTA provides many benefits for the students, family and community that may be in jeopardy of going away if new volunteers are not found.
- Field trips - the field trips taken by all the students. The PTA pays for the busing costs to make these field trips possible. This is roughly 75% of the PTA budget.
- STEM Night - prizes, food and special guests (Bakken museum activities) are all paid for by the PTA.
- Literacy night - prizes and book sale are handled by the PTA.
- Wacky Run - this is the major fundraiser for the PTA which the kids love the prizes getting great exercise by running and running wacky for an hour..
- Spring Carnival - this major student family and community event is put on by the PTA.
- Thank-you Meals for teachers during Parent-Teacher conferences, and teacher appreciation week
- Communication from the Principal, staff and school district with the parents attending.
As you can see there are a lot of great things that might not take place unless there are new parents who will join the PTA.
The time commitment depends on how many parents join. More parent involvement lets us share the time needed to provide all these great services. Team work makes the dream work. The PTA meets once a month for an hour (typically 1st Wednesday of month at 5 p.m.). Then for each major event there are several hours shared among the PTA members. So it is not a lot of time and it is LOTS of fun!!!
Please join us on the Park Terrace PTA to keep it alive! Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 5 at 5 p.m. in the Park Terrace Library.
You can contact us by email at parkterracepta@gmail.com. Or stop by the Park Terrace office and give your contact information and let them know that you are interested in joining the PTA and one of our current members will get in touch with you.
Friendship matters at PT
Park Terrace participated in an all-school project centered around friendship. Every student got a piece of paper to illustrate what they think friendship should look like. All the pieces were then combined to make a Friendship Quilt which is displayed in our awesome clubhouse. The clubhouse is a great place to get work done when students need a change of scenery. And our amazing library paraprofessional, Ms. Leena, is always there to help!

It is amazing to see the difference in kids who start early in this program vs. kids that start in 4th or 5th grade. The session is four weeks and costs only $30 per student.
