Village Explorer Weekly Update

Village Explorer Families,

We hope you all are finishing out a joyful and relaxing holiday break! We are excited to welcome your children back to Village on Monday. Please read the newsletter closely for important information and updates.

• Week of 1/6 and 1/13: 4th Grade Field trips to the Maritime Museum, please see your teacher's communication on the specific day
• January 8th: Fire Drill (10:40 AM)
• January 9th: Extended arts enrichment lesson for Kindergarten and 3rd grade
• January 10th: Flag Assembly on Lower Playground (8:15-8:30)
• January 16th: Extended arts enrichment lesson for 1st and 4th grade
• January 17th: Flag Assembly on Lower Playground (8:15-8:30) with a Principal and PTO coffee chat to follow in Village Hall

If your child is experiencing symptoms of the stomach flu (vomiting, diarrhea) please keep them home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. Also, if your child is running a fever, please keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours without medication. This will help prevent more students from getting sick during flu season.

Our first Semester ends on January 23rd. Report cards will be sent home on the 31st.

If your child is fasting during the day for religious reasons and would like an accommodation during PE, please notify Nurse Kathy at village.nurse@coronadousd.net accommodation will be granted.

We appreciate all of the volunteers working at our school on a daily basis! In order to make the sign in process more streamlined, please fill out this form for any days that you will be volunteering in the upcoming week, and we will have your pass pre-printed out for you.

This Month's focus is on Habit 4: Think Win-Win. This habit is about considering the perspective of the other person when working together, and finding solutions that benefit all parties. Please see the family connection flier to continue the conversation about effective conflict resolution

This year, one of our goals is to reduce Chronic Absenteeism from 11% to 5%. The effects of Chronic Absenteeism on a student are significant and more information is located here. Absenteeism whether excused or unexcused also has a financial impact on our school as we do not receive the daily revenue from students who are absent. The graph below shows our progress each month of being above 95% Average Daily Attendance. We will also include roughly how much revenue the school has lost due to absences. If we reach our monthly goal, each student will receive a popsicle at lunch.

Hello Military Families,

As we close out 2024, I want to thank you and your family for your service to our country! Each of you show amazing amounts of grit, grace, resilience, and sometimes even humor, as you navigate the ups and downs of the military lifestyle all while continuing to be wonderful role models to the next generation.
