Miners in the Middle
December 8, 2024
Week of December 9th - 14th
Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,
As we approach the end of the semester, I want to clarify the semester exam/exemption procedures, especially for our 6th graders, as this is a new process for them.
We offer an attendance incentive for students with good grades and attendance, allowing them to be exempt from certain semester exams. It’s important to understand that attendance matters up until semester exams begin on the 17th and also that the only absences that don't count for exemption purposes are School Activity Absences (excused absences are still absences).
Here’s an example: If a student currently has an A and four absences, they are on track to be exempt. However, they must continue to maintain their attendance by being present every remaining school day through December 16. If they miss even one day between now and then, their absences would exceed four, and they would no longer qualify for the exemption.
We’ve also loved seeing students participate in our holiday dress-up days! The fun continues through the last day of school, so we hope to see even more festive spirit in the coming days.
Finally, don’t forget our Band and Choir Concert this Tuesday at 7 p.m.—a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit. We’d love for you to join us and support our talented fine arts students.
If you have any questions about the attendance incentive, test exemptions, or upcoming events, please reach out. Thank you for your continued support as we finish the semester strong!
Sincerely,
Nicole Green
Principal

HMS Building-Wide Expectations
Classroom Expectations
These are our school-wide expectations for our students. Positive behavior fosters an environment where ALL students can learn and grow. It is our hope that our HMS families will discuss our school-wide behavior expectations and encourage positive behaviors at school and home.
Common Areas Expectations
Our school-wide expectations extend beyond the classroom. It is important that students also realize they are accountable for their behaviors in the hallway, cafeteria and at all school sponsored activities on and off campus.
