June 2024 Newsletter
Bonjour Rideau Families,
June is here, and with it comes the heat. Our school being almost 100 years old, it can get really hot, especially on the third and second floor. Make sure children have their water bottle to stay hydrated.
Speaking of 100 years, we have a unique opportunity on Monday June 3rd to have a drone take a picture of the children on the yards with the school as a background. We will have the students stand in a 100 formation, wearing their yellow or green Rideau shirt if possible, to capture this moment. We will then use this picture in our 100th Anniversary celebration. If your child has a Rideau shirt, encourage them to wear it on Monday.
If you would like to take part in the Centennial Celebration Committee, please reach out. Although brainstorming and preparation will not start until the fall, I would like to prepare early for this special event. Feel free to email me directly if that is something you would like to be part of.
We have noticed lately that some parents, when dropping off their children at the front of the school, park in the bus loading/unloading zone. Although most buses unload on MacDonnell Street, we have 2 busses dropping off children at the front of the school every morning. Also, if a bus runs late, they need to drop the children off on Dundas Street. Thank you for your collaboration with this.
Our Lost and Found bin/table/hallway... has exploded lately. So much so that we did not even had time to organize the clothes neatly on tables. We will set up more tables this week to make that happen. Feel free to join us in folding and organizing clothing if you have some free time. We will then take pictures and share them in hopes of finding the owners of all those clothes.
With June being Pride month, students will learn about the message and what it stands for. Rideau will have a Pride celebration day on June 14. We will start with an assembly in the gym at 2:00 pm followed by a neighbourhood parade and a dance party on the yard. Everyone is welcome! For your information, Napanee is hosting their Pride Parade tomorrow, June 1; while Kingston is celebrating on June 15 (see poster below).
Grade 6 Celebration will be on June 25 and will start at 11:30 am, you can arrive earlier so everyone is seated and ready to start at 11:30. We will recognize our students, hand them their certificates and celebrate with pizza and cake. In the afternoon, the students will go to the YMCA to swim. Some grade 6 students also mentioned wanting a dance and that should happen during another afternoon during the last week of school.
June 26 is our school Family Picnic, it is from 5-7pm. Bring a blanket to sit on, games to play with families and friends and be ready to enjoy some well-deserved fun times. There will be music in the background and there might be some frozen treats offered at a reasonable price for those who would like something sweet to end their meal. I hope to see many of you there!
