Kohler Elementary's Bomber Blast
Best Wishes for the New Year January, 2025
Welcome Back Message from Principal Schneider
Dear Families,
Welcome back to the new year! My hope is that you've all had many special family memories made, rejuvenation time, and holiday fun over the break, and are now excited to get back to school. It's hard to believe we're already into January and making New Year's Resolutions for 2025. On behalf of our Elementary teachers, administrative staff, and myself, we thank you for your generosity and kindness of gifts, snacks, and cards that you showered us with.....we felt very supported and appreciated. Thank you for your continued involvement in our school community each day. Your engagement and presence makes a significant difference in our students', your beloved children's, successes.
January will prove to be a busy month. We will soon gather new data points through another round of testing which allows us to ensure growth is happening and pivot where necessary to be the best educators for your children. ACCESS testing for English Language Learners will continue over the next week and a half, and AimsWeb will occur the week of the 20th with Map Testing to follow. A parent letter will soon go home to K-3 parents explaining WI ACT 20 and the second round of the AimsWeb Plus Assessment (phonics and reading skills) and additional next steps for schools, including ours. Additionally, we give our MAP assessments for K-5 in math and 4th/5th take reading as well. Conferences in February will then be a great time to go over those results with your child/rens teachers.
Beyond assessments, because December and January have been filled with some snowy and chilly days, we already have needed to bundle up with scarves, boots, and snow pants, in order to and enjoy our winter wonderland of "Mount Kohler" outside once again. Additionally, exciting academic units and learning extensions continue. From ice skating, to guest speakers, to Dazzling Dave, a Yoyo master (motivational, growth mindset speaker), to another PBIS celebration of our successes coming at the end of the month, we continue to be extremely busy.
I'd like to remind you that 2nd Quarter is coming to a close on January 16 and therefore, January 17 is a Records Day, NO SCHOOL for your children! One last little tidbit prior to ending this message is to share that January is "School Board Appreciation Month." Please share your thanks and gratitude to the following School Board Members as you see them around Kohler and our school: Cory Bouck- President, Paul Carlsen-Vice President, Tarra Mikolyzk-Treasurer, Heather Gehri-Member at Large, and Kelly Konrath-Clerk. We know our School Board works very hard and strives to partner and lead with all your children in mind and at the heart of their decision making. With this New Year upon us, I and our staff continue to look forward to the rest of this year together! Stay warm!!
Your partner in education,
Terri

Winter Reminders.....Brrrrr!
Please ensure your child has all winter gear! Our weather has begun to get colder. Students will go outside unless the windchill factor is below zero. All students should be dressed for the weather: boots, hats, mittens, snow pants and warm coats. If students do not have snow pants they will be required to stay on the blacktop, but not on Mount Kohler.
Please make your arrangements in advance and that your child is fully aware of what to do in case school closes early. Ensure that your child knows where they are to go if school closes early: Will they go home with a classmate; an older sibling; or a relative? Have you made prior arrangements with this individual to be on โstandbyโ for these occasions?
Attendance: Policy/Absences
If your child will be leaving school for an appointment or will be absent, please send the office a message. Either email Ms. Fischer at: fischere@kohler.k12.wi.us OR call 920.459.2920 and follow prompts.
- Keep in mind, documentation provided from the doctor allows us to enter the absence as "medical" instead of "absent excused." Medically excused absences do not count toward the ten days allowed per state statute.
- We want to remind families that any unexcused absences, must be corrected within 2 weeks of the absence, or the absence remains documented as unexcused.
Ice Skating Is Upon Us..... Please turn in permission slip soon!
Book Drive: Ends January 16th
Kohler School Friends PTO
Reminder: Kohler School Friends: PTO would love you to join them for the next meeting, January 20th, 2025 at 6:00 -7:00 p.m. (Meetings are the 3rd Monday/month in the Library).
PTO leadership is immediately seeking........ Two parents to lead 2025 Kohler School Holiday Arts & Craft Fair. This favorite 22 year old tradition raised $28,000 for PTO, KABB, students and teachers in 2024. Rosa Hartman and Shannon Bullard will be willing mentors. 75% of the team from last year is returning and we just need a strong โsecretaryโ and โmeeting conductor.โ Please email shannon@bullardsmiles.com by January 15th. Without your support, we will let the vendors know that the craft fair will discontinuing on January 20th so they can apply to other competitive craft fairs.
- (Last minute side note) .......This Tuesday, Jan 7th, PTO President, Shannon Bullard will be opening her house up to any parents who wish to learn about what parents can do at the school. She still is searching for the next president as she hasn't found a replacement for President yet. (Please join her at: 680 Treehouse Parkway- All welcome!.)

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day-January 20th
How perfect that we celebrate the life and legacy of MLK just at the start of the new year -- it offers the opportunity to make resolutions about the steps we each can take to continually foster kindness in our world.
