Thank You for an Amazing Movie Night!
We wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers for organizing such a fantastic movie night for our school community. The event was a huge success, and it was wonderful to see so many families coming together and enjoying the evening. Your hard work, dedication, and attention to detail truly paid off.
Sleep & Screentime
As we move through the school year, I’d like to take a moment to highlight two key areas that greatly impact our students’ success and well-being: sleep and screen time.
A good night's sleep is essential for children to be able to learn, grow, and fully participate in all the wonderful things happening each day. Experts recommend that school-aged children get between 9-11 hours of sleep each night to support their physical and mental development. Well-rested students are more attentive, can retain information better, and feel more positive about their school experience.
Equally important is monitoring screen time, especially in the evening hours. Too much screen exposure, particularly before bed, can interfere with the body’s natural sleep cycles, making it harder for children to fall asleep and stay asleep. We encourage you to set healthy screen time limits, especially on school nights, and to create routines that help wind down the day in a calm and restful way.
Please refer to the attachments from the North Vancouver School District for more information.

Winter Concerts
Students and staff members are very excited about our upcoming concerts, and we look forward to sharing our performances with our Braemar community. We are asking parents to help out with a costume, for their child, for the performances. Please see suggestions below. And, please note when your child's class will be performing. The Gr. 7 students, in the cast of the Winter Play portion of the concert, will be performing on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The Primary Winter Concert will be about 30 minutes long, titled: “Snow What Fun! When Snowfolks Come to Life on the Shortest Day of the Year!” The story is a twist on the classic “’Twas The Night Before Christmas”.
The Intermediate Concert is titled, “Snow Biz”. It is a musical about the celebration of snow and the way it affects the lives of people. It is a Vaudeville-style musical, which means each scene is a separate act to do with the theme of snow. (about 45 minutes long).

A little history . . .
Artists for Kids was founded in 1989 with the singular intent to support exceptional art education and enrichment opportunities for young artists. For over three decades, this collective vision has been central to the development of a thriving art education program, including the Gordon Smith Gallery and its Permanent Collection of Canadian Art. Gordon Smith, Bill Reid, and Jack Shadbolt were the founding artist-patrons of Artists for Kids, which brings some of Canada’s most significant art curriculum to children, youth, and educators across British Columbia.
In 1988 Bill Reid designed Xhuwaji / Haida Grizzly on a ceremonial drum which is part of the Gordon Smith Gallery’s Permanent Collection. In 1990 Reid created an edition of serigraph prints (with printmaker Terra Bonnieman) to be sold through the Artists for Kids Limited Edition Portfolio program. Xhuwaji / Haida Grizzly was the first Artist for Kids Limited Edition Portfolio print, marking the beginning of a great partnership between Canadian artists and Artists for Kids.
In order to realize a strong vision for arts education, Artists for Kids developed a funding model which supports children and youth, educators, and artists. This model is centred upon the Gordon Smith Gallery Permanent Collection, established as a teaching collection through which artworks by nationally and internationally recognized Canadian artists are acquired by purchase or donation. In conjunction with each acquisition, the artist generously donates an original artwork to be released for sale as a limited edition. Funds raised through the Artists for Kids Limited Edition Portfolio program directly support Gallery programs, artist residencies, camps, scholarships, and bursaries designed for children, youth, and educators.
Acquiring an edition from the Artists for Kids Limited Edition Portfolio is not only an investment in artists and art education, but in building community and understanding through the Arts.
