The weather has quickly taken a turn to the seasonal cold and students are looking forward to more snow on the ground in the future to take part in weekend snowmen making and sledding during their after-school and weekend opportunities this month..

Next Monday (1/17) is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. School will be closed in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. Students will continue learning in developmentally appropriate ways Dr. King’s message of peaceful conflict resolution. As we honor his memory we take this time to reflect why his leadership was so critical to the civil rights movement. We enjoy a day off but it is important for students to understand the reason for the holiday. As you reflect with your children at home, we ask each family to encourage our Byam students to think of one way to give back to their family or community to spread kindness.

Many individuals in our community are understandably not able to commit to a consistent substitute schedule, but would like to help support Byam in some way. This program provides a way for parents/guardians or grandparents to provide "one day and done" flexibility of volunteer tutoring support in a Byam classroom between the hours of 8:45-3:15. Participants will be assigned to a classroom other than their own child''s/grandchild's classroom. Communication of a requested day in many cases will be inquired by the Byam office within 1-2 days prior to volunteer day. All volunteers must be CORI'd. If more than one member of a child's family is interested, please submit a form for each individual separately. Call our Byam office at 978-251-5144 with any questions.

The BSA showed appreciation with a breakfast treat for our hardworking teachers and staff on Monday! Coffee, muffins and bagels from KJ's. Dr. Lang and the School Committee also pitched in to show their support for our teachers!

Another exciting update from the BSA is that we were able to raise enough funds from our book fair to give our new Byam teachers $100 scholastic dollars to start their classroom libraries! We love these opportunities to support our school, teachers, and staff!

Did you know that the weekly pool testing done on Monday mornings at Byam is a PCR test?! PCR is considered the gold standard of testing. The pool testing program is a way to get a free PCR test for your child when tests are so hard to find right now! Your participation also helps stop the spread in our community.
