We will continue to teach and practice our school expectations, focusing on that with students when we return. Please talk with your students at home about how to be a Crawford LEADer everyday: Listen, Engage, Achieve and Develop.

As we begin the third quarter of the school year, encourage your student(s) to stay on top of their assignments and be mindful of due dates. Please contact teachers about any missing assignments to make sure content has been mastered and to help improve grades. You can always check your student's progress on Infinite Campus at:

Ensuring Your Child's Safe Dismissal

We prioritize your child's safety during dismissal. We follow written instructions from the custodial parent/guardian or the information in Infinite Campus.

• Early Dismissal: If you need to pick up your child early, please send a written note to the school before the scheduled dismissal time. We require photo ID and verification in Infinite Campus for all pickups. If no written instructions are received, your child will follow their regular dismissal routine or be released to their custodial parent/guardian.

• Daily Transportation Changes: To change your child's daily transportation (e.g., bus, car rider), please send a note with your child in the morning or email tracy.hobbs@fayette.kyschools.us by 2:00 PM on the day of the change. Due to safety and logistical reasons, we cannot accept changes by phone or for future dates. If we do not receive notification, your child will be dismissed according to their regular transportation plan.

Crawford Leadership Academy for Literacies and Civic Engagement: Opening August 2025

• First magnet of its kind in the state of Kentucky and one of the first in the nation

• Focus on experiential learning through project based learning

• Lessons and units will integrate multiple subject areas into one unit/project AND will connect to real world scenarios and issues affecting our community

• Students will work hand in hand with community leaders to solve community issues while applying their learning from the classroom

• All students will be trained and coached in leadership skills and practices to be demonstrated at school and within their communities

• Students will demonstrate the ability to be digitally literate in this modern world

• Students may demonstrate the ability to be financially literate through specific coursework

• Students will demonstrate the ability to be civically literate in alignment with Kentucky's graduation requirements as of 25-26. All 8th graders will complete the civic literacy course required in HS prior to entering HS. CLA is the only middle school to offer this opportunity

• Tuesday, March 18: Community & Culture Fair - Join our social studies and language arts departments for our version of “March Madness”!

Remember that you are invited to join PTSA and attend their monthly meetings, participate in the Round Table sessions hosted by our FACE liaison, and observe our SBDM council meetings on the third Thursday of each month. You can visit our website and check our school calendar for other details.

Reporting procedure

Within 3 (three) days of their return to school after an absence, a student shall present a written note to the designated staff member, signed by his or her parent/guardian or licensed healthcare professional, that should include:

• The current date
• The student’s (printed) first and last name
• The date(s) of the absence(s) (not just the days of the week)
• The reason for the absence(s); and
• The parent/guardian signature

If a signed excuse is not received within 3 (three) days, the absent event shall be deemed unexcused.

A parent/guardian may submit via email a picture or scanned attachment of their signed parent note. For medically-related excuses, the parent/guardian must submit the original medical excuse, which may be requested from the licensed healthcare professional for the records of the parent/guardian. Medically-related excuses faxed from the office of the licensed healthcare professional will also be accepted.

The goal of the CMS School-wide Behavior System is to teach expectations and character education focusing on Leadership. Please talk to your students about how they will Listen, Engage, Achieve, and Develop, in and out of school this year.

Each nine weeks, students are able to earn the Legendary Leaders Reward. In order to qualify for the event, your student must meet all the following requirements:

Students are welcomed into the building starting at 8:35 a.m. Please note that students dropped off prior to 8:35 a.m. may sit on the front or back porch, however, there is no adult supervision. Upon entering the building, they will have the option to pick up their grab and go breakfast to eat in their homeroom class. First period begins at 9:05 a.m at which time students will be considered tardy to school.

Crawford Daily Schedule

The lunch period is highlighted in green on the schedule and is 75 minutes with 25 of it allotted for lunch. Your child’s teacher will communicate specific lunch times with students. We also will have a 30 minute class called Leader in Me this year.
