As we approach Thanksgiving, it's essential to reflect on the holiday's multifaceted history. Traditional narratives often depict a harmonious feast between Pilgrims and Native Americans, but this oversimplification overlooks the complex dynamics of the time. The Wampanoag people, for instance, entered into an alliance with the Pilgrims primarily to protect themselves from rival tribes, not merely out of goodwill. Over time, this relationship deteriorated, leading to conflicts such as King Philip's War, which had devastating effects on Indigenous communities. This is a reminder that reading logs for all 5th-8th grade students are due tomorrow, covering the weeks of November 12-15 and November 18-21. Reading at home plays a vital role in developing literacy skills, fostering imagination, and building a lifelong love of learning. It also reinforces the critical thinking and comprehension strategies students practice in school. By dedicating time each day to independent reading, students enhance their vocabulary, expand their knowledge, and strengthen their academic performance. As the weather turns colder and snow begins to fall, we kindly ask for your patience and flexibility with bus schedules. Buses may occasionally run earlier or later than usual to ensure the safety of all students. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us prioritize everyone's well-being during these winter months!

Join us for a special 21st Century Family Night on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 5:00–6:00 PM! Together, we will explore the teachings of Star Knowledge through engaging learning sessions. Families are invited to enjoy a chili and frybread meal, gather around a cozy fire, and make s’mores. Dress warmly as we observe the Star Nation and connect with the universe around us. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening of learning and community!

On December 5, we will be conducting hearing screenings for students. Opt-out letters have been sent home with each child. If you prefer your child not participate, please complete and return the form to us. If we do not receive an opt-out form, we will proceed with the screening as scheduled.

Our students are busy preparing to share their talents for this year’s Christmas Program on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM! From festive songs to creative performances, they are excited to showcase their hard work and holiday spirit. Families and friends are warmly invited to join us in celebrating the season and supporting our students' efforts. We can’t wait to see you there!

In Religion class, Sr. Mary is guiding our 7th and 8th grade students in preparing for the highly anticipated Shadow Play, a cherished tradition that brings scripture to life through creativity and reflection. The students are deeply engaged in analyzing and breaking down the script, thoughtfully assigning roles, and collaborating to design and create props that will set the stage for a powerful performance. This hands-on project not only deepens their understanding of the stories they portray but also fosters teamwork, creativity, and a deeper connection to their faith. We can’t wait to see the beauty and meaning they bring to this year’s play!

It is with heartfelt gratitude that we bid farewell to Robbie White Hair, a cherished member of our Winyan Wakan Owayawa community for the past several years. Robbie has been much more than a member of our maintenance department; he has been a cornerstone of support and service. As the bus driver for L3, he safely transported our students each day and graciously accompanied field trips, driving and chaperoning with a joyful spirit, always ready to have fun and offer encouragement. Beyond his daily duties, Robbie demonstrated profound generosity by sponsoring a family every year for tuition, embodying the values and commitments we promote daily. His kindness, selflessness, and unwavering dedication have left a lasting impact on our students, families, and staff. As Robbie departs to join his family in Wyoming, we send him off with our deepest gratitude, love, and prayers. His legacy of service, care, and community will continue to inspire us all. You will be greatly missed, Robbie!

Transportation Update
With Robbie’s departure, Tunwin Tamera has been reaching out to families of the L3 bus route to ensure a smooth transition. We know that many of you have communicated directly with Robbie, and we appreciate your patience as we adjust. Volunteer staff will serve as drivers until a replacement is found, and we kindly ask that any and all changes to your transportation needs be called into the office.

Practice Schedule:

• Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:00pm. PLAYERS NEED THEIR OWN RIDES
• Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:15pm. Players will ride the ASP bus home.

If you need to make any changes to your child's transportation, please call the office to inform us. This includes picking up your child instead of having them take the bus. We relay this information to bus drivers to ensure we always know your child's whereabouts. Please make sure to call in any changes by 2:30 p.m., except in cases of extreme emergencies.
