Science Olympiad Team Competition!
The Beck Centennial Science Olympiad team participated in the Macomb County Science Olympiad on May 11th against 32 other teams. Our team earned a 3rd place finish in Crash Car “Egg-spert” with Zachary and Maxwell Brock competing, and a 6th place finish for “Water Rockets” with Brogan Cain at the controls. The team, consisting of students in 4th-6th grade, along with support from their Parent/Coaches, practiced with their teammates to prepare for this annual tournament held at Macomb Community College South Campus every Spring. This year’s team members included Raina Daniel, Dominik Bojaj, Jaewon Schmidt, Zachary Brock, Maxwell Brock, Brogan Cain, and Maddie Mittleman. Congratulations to the Beck Centennial Science Olympiad
Thank You for Your Generosity Beck Community!
Last month our students and staff held events and fundraisers to help our school community be more informed and aware of Autism. Through the generous support of our school's community, we are able to donate $262.50 to the Autism Play Place. Autism Play Place is a non-profit organization in Sterling Heights that focuses on development, life skills and independence to assist families with the everyday nuances of living with autism.
BECK FIELD DAY - June 3 - WE NEED YOU!
Beck Field Day: Monday June 3, 2024
Beck Families, Thank you for volunteering! Our Field Day at Beck Elementary is Monday June 3, 2024 (Make up date is Tuesday June 4). ***Reminder*** a background check must be on file in order to volunteer. If you have not submitted one yet this year: stop in the front office for the background check form.
Morning (8:50 - 11:00 a.m.): Young 5's, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 & 2. Volunteer meeting at 8:50 a.m. by main entrance of school and Field Day activities until 11:00 a.m.
Afternoon (12:30 - 2:45 p.m.): Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6. Volunteer meeting at 12:30 p.m. by main entrance of school and Field Day activities until 2:45 p.m.
Volunteers will meet outside near the main entrance of the school for a brief meeting and head out to their stations. You will then stay at that station as classes rotate to you. Once the final whistle blows, you are free to leave. *Not all stations require multiple volunteers - I ask for more to lighten the workload for all. If all volunteer slots are not filled, we may need to rearrange some volunteers so that all stations have a person helping.
Salmon in the Classroom - Mr. Knobbe & 6th Grade
Our 11th annual Beck Centennial Salmon in the Classroom “Salmon Release” took place this past Friday on the banks of the Clinton River. A healthy gathering of 6th graders “schooled” around the release area awaiting their turn to set free the young salmon. This group of students, including those who comprised the Salmon in the Classroom Water Quality Team, participated in the release of 96 Chinook (King) Salmon “smolts” (think young salmon in the 3”- 4” range) as part of the Michigan Department of Natural Resource’s Salmon in the Classroom program. The students on the Water Quality Team were responsible for weekly testing and recording of important water quality data, including pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels, as well as the overall health of the fish. The goal of the program is to provide students with an educational opportunity to learn about natural resource conservation, and witness first-hand the life cycle of the Chinook Salmon from "eyed"egg to smolt. When the release was “fin-ished”, the students sighed and considered the well-being of each of the salmon as they make their journey through life. One student even gave a message of encouragement to the young salmon,” I hope you stay in …school!”
