SUPER HERO FAMILY FUN NIGHT INVITATION
FIVE THINGS FAMILIES CAN DO TO HELP THEIR CHILD THRIVE AT SCHOOL
Every family- and every child- is different, but there are ways all families can set up their child for success at school. Studies show that children are more likely to achieve at school when they have a supportive environment. To set your child up for a great school year:
1. Set the Bar High- Insist on your child's personal best, but don't demand perfection. Praise effort and progress- even if your child falls short of the goal.
2. Assign Chores- Children who have household responsibilities learning how to be responsible. Make a short list of weekly tasks and expect your child to complete them.
3. Teach Social Skills- To learn, students must be able to demonstrate the ability to get along with others. Promote cooperation and courtesy.
4. Nurture Your Relationship- Have fun together with your child. Find a hobby you can enjoy together. Visit a park or play a game of catch in the yard. Express your love for your child by spending quality time with them.
5. Take Care of Yourself- If you are always stressed, your child will be too. Carve out time to relax, exercise, or curl up with a book. A calm, peaceful home starts with you.
LIM HABIT HOMEWORK CHALLENGE
Habit 1 Homework: Be Proactive
Part of being proactive is taking responsibility for your own actions. Have your child think about a time when they were upset and responded inappropriately. Maybe they threw a tantrum or stomped away when they were upset. Brainstorm a better wait to handle the situation the next time is arises.

Want to Volunteer?
LEX welcomes volunteer participation in our school and fully understands the impact parent involvement makes on the education of the child. There are many opportunities in our school to actively participate in the educational program.
Per the Child Protective Services Law and Act 15 of 2015, volunteers are required to obtain background checks (PA State Police and FBI Reports) and child abuse clearances (Child Abuse History Clearance). Clearances are valid for 60 months from the date of issue and must be on file in the school's Main Office before the volunteer is approved to participate in any activities.
The volunteer requirements and the individual clearances are described in detail within the Altoona Area School District Volunteer Manual. For specific questions, please contact the building principal.
Visit our website via this link to begin the process to become a volunteer!
