Principal's Message
Dear Students and Parents,
We've reached the semester's midpoint! Please review the following updates as we move into the final quarter of the school year.
Attendance Month 8 & Attendance Letters:
Friday, March 21st, is the last day of Attendance Month 8 (20 days). Students must achieve at least 18 days of attendance (90%) to remain eligible for independent study. We encourage all students to meet this goal. Students who do not minimally meet the 18-day requirement will receive an email from their teacher and possibly from the principal. This is to ensure your academic success, as attendance is directly linked to coursework completion and passing grades.
Credit Target
Maintaining consistent credit progress is essential for on-time graduation. Students should strive to complete approximately 30 credits, or six classes, per semester. 11th or 12th grade students who fall significantly behind may be recommended to the district's continuation high school at the end of this school year. Take proactive steps to ensure you're earning as close to 30 credits as possible.
Community Service:
Seniors nearing graduation, please ensure your community service hours are completed. Click HERE for community service opportunities.
CAASPP Testing
State CAASPP testing is scheduled for Monday, April 28th, through Friday, May 2nd. Testing is for 11th graders only. Juniors, please mark these dates on your calendar. Further details will be provided in the coming weeks.
Graduation:
SNHS's graduation ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 PM on Friday, June 6th, at the Great Oak High School Stadium. Seniors, please closely monitor emails from our school secretary, Gloria Dixon, for detailed information.
End-of-Year Schedule:
Open your calendars and mark these important dates:
Friday, May 23rd: Complete all coursework
Friday, May 30th: Complete all unit exams and finals.
* Note, these are tentative dates. Check with your teachers for their specific class end dates.
Spring Break:
Spring Break is scheduled for Monday, March 24th, through Friday, April 4th. Enjoy your break, but if you're behind in your classes, use this time to catch up.
That’s a lot of information! Let's work together to make this final quarter a positive and productive one! We look forward to celebrating your successes.
Sincerely,
David Schlottman
Principal
CAP Meeting This Wednesday at SNHS
Info About the FAFSA
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) priority deadline has been extended to April 2nd. As spring break is from March 24th to April 4th, we encourage all families to start the process as soon as possible.
Common Concerns/Questions Answered
Grants vs. Loans: Completing the FAFSA can qualify students for grants (free money that does not need to be repaid) and loans (which must be repaid)
Completing the FAFSA does not force you to accept any of the financial aid, it only helps you understand what your child is eligible to receive
Parent & Student Portions: The parent(s) AND student need to complete their portions for it to be fully submitted
ALL contributors need their own studentaid.gov account
Only the student section is needed if the student is independent
Is my student dependent or independent? Check here: Federal Student Aid Dependency Status
Trade/Vocational Schools: Many trade schools qualify
Community Colleges: They are less expensive but NOT free

Please check out the NEW SAFETY GUIDELINES put out by our district office in coordination with local law enforcement. If your student is riding a bike to school this is a must read! There are different laws for each type of bike. Check out those rules linked above.
And, regardless of the type of bike, please know that all students under 18 MUST WEAR A HELMET! That's a good starting point for safety while on a bike! Please review the link above and talk with your student about safe biking to school!
