Renaissance Learning (STAR Reading/EL/Math)

  • Please read over the 20/21 STAR Assessment Protocols. You will find the protocols in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→Testing. Intervention Specialists are required to add extended time prior to the testing experience.

  • Updated STAR benchmarks may be found in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→Testing.

  • NEW 20/21 - STAR Math: We are adding AUDIO support for all students.

  • Accelerated Reader: We have removed Accelerated Reader from the STAR Suite as we transition to new ELA programs.

  • Renaissance has added a Curriculum-based Measure (CBM) to the elementary suite. Star CBM provides a progression of measures in both reading and mathematics that helps you track students’ progress toward third-grade proficiency. Star CBM Reading begins by assessing students’ understanding of letters and their sounds, moves on to basic phonological awareness and early decoding, and progresses to passage reading.

    Star CBM Math demonstrates students’ developing math competency, including recognizing numerals and their value, as well as learning basic facts in addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Placement/Retention Guidelines & Forms (Grades K-5)

  • You will find the updated guidelines & forms in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→Placement/Retention Documents.

  • Please read over the documents so that you are aware of district timelines.

  • Building Principals have copies of the parent placement and retention letters.

K-3 Diagnostics

  • Please report Diagnostic Scores to Kristie Chandler & Taryn Miley no later than ​Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

  • You will find Diagnostic Guidelines and the reporting sheet in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→Testing.

  • September 14-18 STAR Reading (FALL Screening) Grades 2-5

PreK-5 Testing Calendar

K-3 RIMPs

  • You will find RIMP guidelines in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→RIMP Resources.

  • Parent resources may be located in the shared google drive: SLS Elementary Documents→RIMP Resources→RIMP Parent Resources.

  • RIMPS are due to Shannon Gwozdz by October 9th.

K-3 Primary Progress Information

SNAP PORTFOLIOS:

  • We are not ordering SNAP Portfolios for the 20/21 school year due to COVID. Instead, K-3 teachers may send home work/digital samples in student folders.

PROGRESS REPORTS/REPORT CARDS:

  • You may download a copy of the Progress Reports for grades K-3 using the PDF link below.

  • Printed Report Cards - Teachers in grades K-3 will make 2 copies of the report card.

      • Copy 1 will be placed in the child's cumulative record folder.

      • Copy 2 will be placed in an envelope to be mailed home.

K-5 Student Assessment Records

  • We will continue using the Student Assessment Record forms (cardstock).

Security Provisions - State Testing

  • Please sign and return the “Security Provisions for Statewide Assessment Tests” form. Forms are due to building principals by September 30, 2020.

  • Student teachers must read and sign the form as well.

Bridges Math

Priority Standards

  • ELA & Math Priority Standards have been updated for the 20/21 academic year.
  • As we transition to a hybrid/remote model, it is imperative that we significantly narrow (standards) and deepen (instruction) the time and energy spent on in-person instruction. Reprioritizing the standards ensures that we focus deeply on the major work of each grade level so that learners can gain strong foundations and solid conceptual understanding.

  • Rozzy Learning- Grades K-5: We have purchased a new resource that is going to get you and your students excited about making connections between careers and STEM, Science, Social Studies, Math, ELA, and Life Skills. Career Adventures is an online suite of ready-to-use project-based lesson plans that includes ALL the resources you’ll need to teach engaging career-focused lessons. Look for an email from Allison Bischoff at Rozzy Learning Company with your login credentials and more information on how to use the resource.

Gizmo’s Interactive Math/Science Simulations (Grades 3-5)

Please email me by Friday, August 28th if you are interested in participating in a new user or advanced user Gizmo’s training this school year. The training sessions are held after school for about 3 hours.

Keyboarding Without Tears

The district purchased a district license for Keyboarding Without Tears. The program will be utilized in our STEAM Program. There may be additional activities pushed out to enable students to practice keyboarding skills on a more consistent basis. These may work well during literacy/learning stations.

Epic Books is a free platform for digital books. If you sign up to use Epic Books, please select "Lexile Levels" as the leveling system since we do not use Accelerated Reader anymore.
