I want to start by thanking everyone who joined us for coffee and conversation with our Multilingual Learner Families. It was such a pleasure to see so many families connect and share together! Special thanks to Ms. Xavier and Ms. Bakanosky for hosting and making everyone feel so welcome. We’re grateful for the wonderful turnout and the chance to build relationships in our Sanborn community.
Earlier that morning, we also held our monthly Cultural Climate Committee (C-3) meeting. I happy to report we had a fantastic group join us! We reviewed parts of the Equity Audit and began discussing our plans to develop a survey to learn more about our students’ and families' experiences here at Sanborn. If you’re interested in these efforts, please consider joining us for our next meeting on Friday, December 6—we would love your input!
Looking ahead, please remember there will be no school on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
We also have some exciting enrichment activities coming up. On Tuesday, November 12, the Discovery Museum will visit our first-grade students to support their science unit on Weather. This wonderful opportunity is funded by the Sanborn PTO through Fun Run contributions—thank you for helping bring these learning experiences to life!
On Friday, November 15, our fourth graders will continue with their “Mind Your Bu$iness” program, diving further into this unique learning experience.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! The Book Fair will be held Monday, November 18th through Friday, November 22nd. Scholastic Book Fair flyers will be coming home with students soon. In the meantime, we are looking for volunteers to help us make the Book Fair a success – come join us by signing up here! Check out our Book Fair Homepage for information on setting up an eWallet for your child.
Thank you, as always, for being part of our Sanborn family. I look forward to more chances to connect with you all!

Harvest Festival Can Drive for Lazarus House
Just like last year, we are hosting a can drive for Lazarus House. You will find bins at the end of each wing and in the front lobby. Lazarus House has shared that they currently need peanut butter (plastic jars only) and canned tuna or chicken.
Lunch Updates
We have noticed an increase in food waste at lunches. Please help us reduce the waste by doing the following:
◦ Remember that if you would like your child to have a school lunch it needs to be ordered in advance. If not, their name will not be on a list. This impacts how much the kitchen prepares each day.
◦ If you would like your child to have a school lunch, work with them when you do the ordering. If your child is a picky eater, remind them of what they will be served that day. (Students may not change their order when they get to the café if they see something else that they prefer).
◦ If you prefer to have your child eat food from home, be sure your child knows that they may not choose to eat the school lunch when they arrive at the café.
◦ Please do not order a lunch and send in a back up lunch. Many children are getting the school lunches, and then throwing it away because they decide to have something else from home. We understand that if this is their first time having a school lunch this may have been a nice option to start the year, however at this point we encourage families to stick with either a school lunch or a home lunch each day.
