Hello LMDES Families!

The start of the 2023-2024 school year is just around the corner. This Back to School issue of the Dent Dolphin Details has all of the information and resources you need to get ready for a fantastic year!

A weekly issue of our Dent Dolphin Details will be sent to families through text message and a Schoology update. Newsletters will contain notable dates, highlights from our school, and important information from SMCPS.

We are looking forward to partnering with you in your child's education this school year! Enjoy these last two weeks of summer!

Avoid the crowds and lines! Teachers and staff will be available to meet students and families throughout the entire 90 minutes of Open House. A later arrival may mean less time in line!

Construction activities will begin at LMDES on Friday, August 11. Our 5th grade classrooms will be the first to be renovated! Temporary 5th grade classrooms are located in the learning cottages on the left side of our building.

Open House Entrances: Our 5th grade entrance will be closed during Open House. Please enter through our Satellite Pickup entrance on the right side of the building or the main lobby doors.

Due to the upcoming renovation, teachers who will be moving classrooms are limiting classroom décor. Wall space will be reserved for student work and instructional aids.

The Rita's truck will be parked in our visitor spaces at the front of the building.

Please Note: Official teacher assignments for students will be available at Open House. Information in HAC is subject to change based upon student and school needs. While the HAC opening date for parents/guardians is August 18th, FINALIZED class lists will be published at Open House.

Satellite Placard Pickup: The '23-'24 Afternoon Satellite Placards are now available for pick up in the front office. The new placards are blue - last year's yellow ones must be discarded.

Does your student know where their laptop and charger is? Please take a few minutes before the start of the year to power on the device, run all of the updates, and ensure it is working order.

All SMCPS laptops come with the same responsibility of care and upkeep as any other loaned resources. Textbooks, novels, laptops and chargers can incur a debt if lost or damaged. Please refer to the student accountability newsletter that will be included in each weekly school newsletter.

In recent weeks, phishing attempts have been targeted at SMCPS student accounts using methods outside of SMCPS managed services.

Phishing is a method where malicious individuals attempt to trick you into providing them with information about you and your online account information. These methods can take many forms, so staying vigilant for anything that seems out of the ordinary when online is important.

Additionally, please note that SMCPS IT support will never contact you on Discord, Steam, or any other application that is not managed by SMCPS and will never ask you for your account password. If you are contacted on any outside application stating to be SMCPS IT, please DO NOT respond, block/report the individual and inform your site administration so that it can be escalated. Contact your building-level tech or the Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) at your first leisure for more information.
