KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We made it through a very successful Booster Week! Thank you to all who participated and supported the efforts that go directly back to our campus, students, and school! The Northwood Foundation was able to exceed their fundraising goal. I am just thrilled that the run was not rained out and we had a good weather day. I anticipate there will be some very sleepy Explorers tonight at the conclusion of an exciting week. Having met the school wide goal means that the admin team will spend a day ‘on wheels’ soon. We just need to secure our wheels and our helmets and arm/elbow/knee pads. 😊
Tuesday, November 5th, is Election Day and our Explorers will have a Remote Learning Day. Homeroom teachers will communicate the plans for students that day. Northwood is serving as a polling place again this year.
The calendars have turned to November – time is going so quickly! Please see the infographics below for details on our upcoming Northwood Thanksgiving Feasts on November 20th and 21st. The RSVP process is important so our cafeteria crew can plan to have the right amount of food prepared for the event. You can print the RSVP and return it to your child’s teacher, or you can email them your RSVP. They will keep a tally to give to our cafeteria team on November 15th. Our Media Center will also be hosting the Book Fair that week, another exciting event on campus!
Family survey percentage update: I am reporting that as of today only 6% of families have submitted the survey. Over this weekend, I do hope you can find time to click the link below and complete the survey. I do realize it asks questions about both the school and the district so there may be some questions to which you skip or indicate as N/A. It will be the Northwood specific data that our SGC team will review as we compare those results to our daily practices. If you have any questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me. The link is here Annual Parent Perception Survey.
Don’t forget to adjust the clocks as we Fall Back this weekend with the time change.
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker, principal
NORTHWOOD HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Northwood students had an engaging month focusing on health-related fitness, exploring each component and activities to enhance them. We also integrated other subjects like science, math and ELA into our lessons. In the pictures above, students performed various exercises to earn letter tiles for their groups and collaborated to form words, earning play money based on the word length. One group impressively created the word “architecture!" We wrapped up our unit by practicing the Fit Georgia physical fitness assessments.
TIME CHANGE: FALL BACK
Daylight Saving Time is ending this Sunday, November 3rd, at 2:00 am. Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour.
VETERANS DAY PHOTO REQUEST
November 11th is Veterans Day, and we are having a performance to celebrate. We would like to invite you to post photos of your loved ones who served in the armed forces. Whether they are currently serving or have passed on, we want to see and celebrate their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to our country. These photos will be presented in a slideshow during the 3rd grade Veterans Day performance on November 11th and 12th. Please follow the link to share your photos with us.
