WFBMS Thursday Folder

Hello!
There are lots of ways to keep the momentum going over the summer. Protecting a regularly scheduled reading time (like 20 minutes of reading before bed) is one way. Joining programs through our public library (see below) is another. Making family trips to local booksellers is another. However you can make it happen, please keep your child engaged with all kinds of texts throughout the summer!

Attention 8th Grade Families!
All current WFBMS 8th Grade Students are invited to “Glow The Night Away” at the 8th Grade Dance on Friday, June 7th from 7-9pm in the High School’s Link and Field House Lobby. A DJ will provide the music, raffle prizes will be announced and light concessions will be available!
**IMPORTANT: The only entrance will be through the Field House doors off of N Ardmore Ave (the doors near the parking lot and the softball field). Students will not be allowed to leave the dance prior to 9:00pm unless a parent/guardian gives written authorization or a prior arrangement has been made to be picked up early. Except with medical documentation, students must be in attendance at school all day in order to attend the dance.
Items Worth Noting:
“Glow” is the theme for the evening! Students are invited (but not required) to wear white and/or neon colors so they will glow under the lights! This is a casual event, so formal attire is not necessary.
All WFBMS 8th grade students are automatically entered in the evening’s raffle. Students have the chance to win gift cards to: Culver’s, Dairy Queen, Dunkin’ Donuts, Fitzy’s, Lululemon, Sephora, Starbucks and Target. Gift cards winners will be announced at the dance and the gift cards will be delivered at school. Attendance at the dance is not required to win.
Students do not need to bring any money to the event. The 8th Grade Dance was included in the promotion fees.
Thank you to our generous sponsors! The Bailey Team - Shorewest for sponsoring the raffle items and Katie Hoven of Fernwood Real Estate - Keller Williams for sponsoring the DJ and Milwaukee Pretzel Company for providing pretzels. We appreciate your support of our students!

Attention 6th Grade Families!!
Save the Date! October 16-18th, 2024, all (Incoming) WFB Middle School 7th graders will attend the 7th Grade Courage Retreat at Camp Anikijig in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
What is the 7th Grade Camp (also referred to as the 7th Grade Courage Retreat)? 7th Grade Camp is not just a fun outing; it's an opportunity for all 7th grade WFBMS students to develop social and leadership skills and connect with their peers in a unique outdoor setting.
WFB Middle School and Camp Staff will organize and help supervise activities. 7th grade parents are expected to volunteer as overnight and/or daytime chaperones. We know this is a big ask, which is why the PTO is working with the 7th grade team to get the word out to parents now in the hopes the extra lead time will enable parents to schedule time to help out during the campout.
We will be asking for parents to volunteer as either overnight chaperones on the evenings of October 16th and 17th, or daytime volunteers on October 17th and 18th to help with camp supervision.
Plans for the 2024 7th grade Courage Retreat are still in the works, and details have not been finalized. There is a lot more information to come!
All you need to do now is to please mark your calendars and watch for emails from the school closer to the start of the 24-25 school year, and follow the WFBMS PTO on Facebook or Instagram!

New Immunization Requirements
The Department of Health Services has updated immunization requirements for school-aged children. These requirements for school-age children will go into effect at the beginning of the 2024–2025 school year.
Changes include:
- Meningococcal (MenACWY-containing) vaccine has been added as a requirement for students entering seventh grade, and a booster dose for eligible students entering 12th grade.
- If a child has had chickenpox, a parent report of chickenpox disease is no longer acceptable for exemption from the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine requirement. Children must have a diagnosis of chickenpox from a qualified health care provider (M.D., D.O., N.P., or P.A.) to be exempt from this requirement, however existing exemption options still apply.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services website includes additional information. We encourage you to contact your healthcare provider if you have specific questions, or to schedule an appointment for a vaccine.
Ice Cream Social June 19
The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation invites students, families and community members to enjoy the start of summer at the Ice Cream Social June 19. The celebration is from 6-8 p.m. at Schoolhouse Park across from the Whitefish Bay Public Library. The Whitefish Bay Civic Band will perform. The first scoop of ice cream, toppings, music and fun are free.
Upcoming School Board Meetings:
The community is welcome to attend School Board meetings to gain a better understanding of School District business and the role of the School Board.
