Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
We hope you had a great weekend, despite the unsettling weather. This time of year can be particularly challenging for sports. Please keep an eye on your emails if you have an athlete participating in spring sports, as the weather may impact practice and game schedules. We appreciate your flexibility regarding any potential schedule changes.
As March comes to an end, we celebrated two fun events last Thursday. In our annual teacher-student-faculty game, ten students from each grade level were selected to compete against the staff. Students were chosen using PBIS raffle tickets they earned. This year, the teachers emerged victorious, led by a strong staff team.
Later that evening, students returned to the school for our annual March Madness activity night. They enjoyed a variety of activities, including a virtual gaming room, a video game truck, laser printing, face painting, and various gym activities. Food and snacks were also provided.
A big thank you to the many volunteers who make this event possible each year, including PIM for providing the food, the Alliance Leadership team for organizing the events, and our dedicated group of teachers who continually support our students.
We also want to thank those who participated in our survey regarding topics for discussion during the parent advisory panel. The top three topics chosen were: Mitigating the Influence of Social Media, Parental Influence on Motivation, and Building Resilience: Productive Struggle. The committee will do its best to bring in speakers to discuss these important topics.
Please take a moment to read the new flyers this week, as they contain important information about the upcoming Region 14 budget and a pasta dinner fundraiser.
Woodbury Middle School is proud to present Frozen Jr. on April 8 and 9. The cast has been preparing for the play under the guidance of our directors, Ms. Manogue, Mr. Snyder, and Mr. Michael. Tech week begins this week as the team prepares for what promises to be an excellent performance.
Thank you!

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
