Curriculum & Instruction
Poetry Is Always A Good Idea!
Students in grade 7 ELA fully immerse themselves in their new poetry unit as they participate in a Poetry Cafe experience as well as use imagery to write a poem describing the solar eclipse.
Solar Eclipse 2024
The Nanuet UFSD provided protective glasses to all students ensuring everyone could enjoy this rare event safely. A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth that either fully or partially blocks the Sun's light in some areas.

Home and Careers
Students in Home and Careers collaboratively review for an upcoming assessment.
Beaks of Finches Lab
In Science, students work with different tools that serve to model Finch "beaks." The seeds provided represent Finch food on a particular island and Finches (students), compete with other "Finch" species to see which "beak" is best adapted for obtaining a specific food.
Aerodynamics in STEM
Students in STEM class design, test, and record flight data after making airframes. Students learn about aerodynamics, which is the study of forces and the resulting motion of objects through the air.

"Makey-Makey" Instrument Project
In music, students make instruments out of everyday items such as cardboard, aluminum foil, and wires. They then program, play, and record music using the Scratch online software system.

Competition Time
In physical education, students play an altered version of Gaga ball.
Temperature, Volume, and Density Exploration
Students perform an experiment that demonstrates the effects of temperature on the volume and density of air.
CO2 Car Race
Students design and build cars in technology class. The culminating event ends with a race to see whos car travels a specified distance in the shortest time.
Art Projects
In art, students use their imagination and skill to create beautiful and expressive drawings and paintings.
Friday April 12 - Nanuet News Episode #20
Mr. Garrison's Introduction to Video Production class provides students an opportunity to adapt in the moment and learn about live video production as their is no pre recording.

Here at Barr Middle School, we have a robust Student Council (seen above creating a bulletin board). Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students who work together with an adult advisor (Mrs. Taylor #LEGEND) to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership, and encourage student/faculty/community relations.

CARE club students learn about the importance of worms in our ecosystem.
Organic Vegetables
CARE club students prepare for the upcoming growing season. Students build beds, plant seeds, maintain plants, and harvest crops in the Barr MS garden.

Best in Show
Jarisbeth Argudo-Chimborazo earned the award of best in show with her art piece (seen above) at the Nanuet Art show held at the Palisades Center. Congratulations Jarisbeth!!

"March Madness" Basketball Tournament
Congratulations to Mrs. Linehan's 8th Grade homeroom for winning the championship (seen above). Mr. Arena organizes and officiates a "March Madness" basketball tournament where all homeroom teams compete for everlasting bragging rights and the coveted grade level trophy.

Community Events & Outreach
Girls Rock STEAM
Our amazing Girls Rock STEAM team of teachers, volunteers, presenters, key note speakers, community members, students, and everyone involved made the Girls Rock STEAM day at Nanuet High School a major success. Our middle school aged girls were provided a way to experience enrichment in STEAM related activities, discussions, and experiences. In the picture above, students dissect a squid.
