Hybrid Plans
We will also be sending you our detailed plans for safety. Our Leadership Team is working to finalize these plans. There is a lot to consider, from drinking fountains to inclement weather. We will publish these plans well before school begins. We are taking safety very seriously and are planning for all aspects of student and staff well being, from the time they arrive until the time they go home.

Math Counts
Hello all,
My name is Phuong Nguyen. I’ve coached MathCounts at LA Middle School for 7 years with my co-coach Jane Lataille . MathCounts is a nonprofit organization which runs a series of Math competitions for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (go to MathCounts.org web site to learn more about this program). This year, all the competitions will be held online, so I am going to do all the practices online as well (through zoom for now). If you want to enroll your student(s) please reply to ducphuong@comcast.net with your name, your student's name, grade, your student's email address, and your email address. When I have all the information, I will email all of you and set up the date and time we are going to meet.
Thank you,
Coach Phuong Nguyen and Jane Lataille

Introducing LAMS Dean of Students Mr. TJ Bonzon
Dear LAMS Students and Families,
My name is Mr. T.J. Bonzon, Dean of Students at Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS). I have the privilege of working alongside Principal Suzanne Lynne and Assistant Principal Andy Ainsworth for a second year as Dean of Students. I support our students’ success by monitoring attendance, truancy, and tardiness - to address and reduce absenteeism. Years of experience in education has taught me that regular, consistent school attendance is a key indicator of student success, happiness and growth.
In an effort to be clear with students and families, we will begin counting school absences and tardies during the week of August 31st, after a two and a half week grace period of allowing students to settle into their active remote learning routines. We understand the nature and challenges of online learning, and we will absolutely be understanding of student technology issues. However, students are expected to be present in class virtual meetings. When there is a technology concern, please communicate the concern with teachers or our site tech, Gary Penny (g.penny@laschools.net).
Furthermore, please contact attendance clerk Kathleen Gonzales to excuse your child’s absence. You can contact Ms. Gonzales by calling (505) 663-2376 or emailing her at k.gonzales@laschools.net. You can also scan or photograph a doctor’s note and email it to Kathleen for medical absences, or you can bring it by the LAMS front office during school hours.
I look forward to working with your students and the families of LAMS. Thank you students for being positive, engaged and flexible. Thank you parents and guardians for your sacrifices, encouragement and patience as you see your child develop remote learning strength and muscle. Please know that all of us at LAMS are working hard to provide a positive remote learning experience until we can return safely to campus on October 5th in hybrid. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding school attendance.
Sincerely yours to help our Hawks THRIVE,
Mr. T.J. Bonzon
