Low Ash Primary
Weekly update - 27.9.24
Autumn term week 4
Firstly, well done to this week's Stars of the Week who are pictured above. They have all had exceptionally good weeks. Keep up the good work everyone.
Autumn has returned with force this week, but the children have still been making the most of the school grounds or sheltering and playing games / reading books in the yurt! I can't quite believe we are now half way through the first half-term of the year and October is nearly upon us. The final 4 weeks of the half term are very busy with various activities so please make sure you have taken note of all of the key dates, including consultation evenings. (Bookings for this will open on 7th October.)
Attendance
This week's school attendance is 95.7%.
Whole school attendance so far this year is 96.6%
Key Stage 1 class of the week - 1B with 99%.
Key Stage 2 class of the week - 5W with 99.3%.
As always we aim for at least 96% attendance - thank you for your support with this.
Once more, here is the link to the attendance page of the school website which has information on the Penalty Notice system.
Community Governor Vacancy
We have a vacancy for a Community Governor. This is not a parent governor role so anyone in the local community who has an interest in children's education can apply. We would particularly welcome nominations from members of the local community with knowledge, skills or experience in law, facilities management, education or anyone with management experience. More details can be found on the advert below, but please also contact the school for further information.
Royal Opera House - Cultural Champions
We are pleased to share that we are taking part in the Royal Opera House Cultural Champions programme this year. This will help us further develop the Arts curriculum offer and develop creative and cultural learning. Miss Imogen Burton (Year 1 class teacher) is our Cultural Champion and she is very excited to begin the journey.
End of half term 'showcases'
At the end of each half term, you are invited into school to your child's classroom to look at their work with them. The first 'show case' will be on Friday 25th October from 3.00pm and the second will be held on Friday 13th December from 3.00pm.
This half term's book recommendations
Each half term, we will be recommending some books to pupils and these will be available to borrow from our school library. Similarly, if any pupils have any particular requests for books in the library, please let us know. This week, we had a request from a Year 5 pupil and these are now already in the library!
The Bridges by Tom Percival
Murray Bun - Murray the Viking by Adam Stower
The Book of Stolen Dreams by David Farr
Year 6 'buddies'
This week, Reception met their Year 6 buddies for the first time. Although some of the children were initially nervous, they very soon were chatting away and enjoying sharing a story. The Year 6 pupils will be there to 'look out' for and support their buddies at lunchtimes.
Communication
We understand that, sometimes, you will need to speak to a member of school staff about issues which may arise. In the first instance we ask that you speak to the class teacher (either on the door at the end of the day, via telephone or by sending an email to the school office). If the concerns can't be resolved by the class teacher, they will be escalated to the most appropriate member of the leadership team.
Should you ring or email school (unless it is an emergency) it might not be possible to speak to someone about the issue on the same day. We respond to everything as quickly as we can, but please allow up to 3 working days (72 hours) for us to get back to you. Thank you for your support.
Parking
Councillor Hinchcliffe has been in touch this week as she has received numerous complaints from local residents about the parking around school. If at all possible, please walk to school or try to park a little further away and then walk. Thank you.
Winter illnesses
As autumn and winter set in, unfortunately illnesses become more frequent. There are a few reminders below:
-if a child has a sickness and diarrhea bug they should stay off school for 48 hours after the last bout of sickness/ diarrhea.
-if a child has chicken pox please make sure that all spots have scabbed over before they return to school. (Children are still contagious even if their spots are covered under a t-shirt).
-please inform us if your child has head lice.
In case of any illness, please can you call or email school to inform us. It is really important that you tell us what your child's illness is (not just that they are ill) as we have to track symptoms/ patterns and keep an eye on numbers of specific illnesses in school.
Sport
Well done to the U11s who have qualified for the next round of the 'Road to Wembley' tournament!
Bradford library membership for all pupils - reminder
A reminder to please complete the Bradford library membership form if you would like your child to join Bradford libraries. As stated previously, this is completely free for all pupils. If you don't complete the form, pupils will still be able to take part in the visit to the library with their class - they just won't be able to borrow any books.
Tours for parents and carers of prospective new pupils
If you know anyone whose child is starting school in September 2025, we are offering tours of Low Ash over the coming months. If you would like to book a spot on one of the tours, please contact the school office on 01274582927 or email on office@lowash.bradford.sch.uk
