Important to note, in order to participate in the Upper Nyack Talent Show, students will:

• perform a Full Dress Rehearsal on Thursday, March 14 during school hours. Students in the relevant grades will be invited to attend as audience members.

The in school schedule of rehearsals on March 14 are as follows:

Grades K-2 - 10:15-11:15am

Grades 3-5 - 2-3pm

• Students must arrive by 5:30PM on THURSDAY, MARCH 14 for a 6PM UNES Talent Show 2023!

On Monday, March 18, from 6:00-7:30, UNES will be having its first ever Family STREAM Night! (PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT THIS IS RESCHEDULED FROM MARCH 11).

All students in grades K-5, along with their families, are welcome to attend. There will be various hands-on activities for the whole family to participate in. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will also be using this event as an opportunity to showcase their own STREAM projects.

Friday, April 12 and Friday, April 19 are Elementary Early Dismissal Days for Parent Teacher Conferences. Students will be released at 11:45am. Afternoon parent teacher conferences (generally from 12:45-3:15pm) will be in person at UNES on these days. On Thursday, April 18, we have EVENING PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES that are VIRTUAL ONLY.

You should soon receive the sign up forms for conferences. If you don't hear from your teacher by Wednesday, March 20, please reach out directly to the teacher.

The schedule for dismissal on our half days for P/T Conferences is as follows:

11:30 am - Kindergarten Students

11:35 am - Walkers & Grades 1 - 5

11:40 am - Car Riders Grades K - 5

11:45 am - Bus Riders K - 5

Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome.

AT UNES, WE'RE ASKING OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY TO WEAR CRAZY, BRIGHTLY COLORED, MISMATCHED SOCKS ON MARCH 21.

The 5th Grade Showcase, A UNIVERSE OF TALENTS, is just around the corner on Wed. March 27, 6:00-8:00pm in the UNES All-Purpose Room. This event requires no ticket and is free to all. The whole 5th grade is participating in the opening & closing numbers, along with the following acts.

On Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26, there will be rehearsals in the cafeteria on the stage to prepare for the show. Please mark your calendars.

As we all know, April is Autism Acceptance Month. UNES will celebrate by participating in Autism Acceptance Spirit Week from April 8-12. Each day that week we will extend Morning Program by about 10 minutes to explain the day's theme and bring awareness to autism and how it can impact the lives of autistic individuals and their families. In February Mrs. Perez discussed the power of resilience and how we have the ability to bounce back after facing challenges. When we have a positive mindset and believe in ourselves, we can do anything we put our minds to. Students were able to identify times when they showed courage and resilience such as learning how to ride a bike for the first time, standing up for a friend and trying something new. Changing negative words such as “I can’t” to “I can” will help students become more resilient and give them the confidence to succeed.
