Gold Fever hits Leinster!
Inspired by the dazzling performances at the Paris Olympics, our students have caught the gold fever! A huge shoutout to Mr Reynolds the 'Chef de Mission' and Mr Hyde for spearheading the Leinster Olympics, turning our school into a global arena of fun and fierce competition, and to all the staff and students who got involved through the fortnight of events.
The games kicked off with an opening ceremony, where students were divided into mixed-age teams representing different countries. Over the week, everyone dived into a whirlwind of sporting activities, showcasing their skills and team spirit. And after tallying up the gold medals, the closing ceremony this afternoon revealed our champions.
This incredible event didn't just crown winners; it also forged new friendships and teamwork among students. A big congratulations to all our athletes and a heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this week unforgettable!

Book Week Competition and Travelling Author
Just over one week until Book Week begins and there is lots to do - costumes, colouring competitions and book reviews! Please return your Book Week competition entries to the front office once complete, there will be two prizes for each class and winners will be announced the day of the book parade.
We are also pleased to announce that we will have Brenton McKenna, graphic novelist, arriving on Monday (ahead of Book Week) to start his three-day 'Storytelling on the Road' program and to inspire our students with his story.
By way of background, Brenton E McKenna, locally known by his middle name, “Eszra” is a respected Yawuru artist based out of Broome, WA, who found a passion for comic books in his youth. A passion which ultimately led to him to become one of the world’s most coveted First Nations Graphic Novelists.
Eszra was inspired by the complexity and depth of Ghost Rider comics, rather than Superman in his youth. While the other kids played sport, Eszra went into other worlds, reading comics and becoming immersed in vivid drawings. As his illustrating skills developed through his teenage years, so did his ability to write stories, to become a complete storyteller. His stories were a deep combination of his own childhood experiences, his grandmother’s stories about Broome and the monsters and heroes that existed in his head.
It wasn’t long before Magabala books, a respected First Nations independent publisher, published Eszra’s first work – Ubby’s Underdogs: The Legend of the Phoenix Dragon in 2011.
The “Ubby’s” brand has gone on to become an iconic three-part series with Ezsra touring his work across the globe and attending literature festivals in many parts of the world. Furthermore, this historical deal with Magabala affirmed Eszra’s place as Australia’s first ever published Indigenous graphic novel author.

These last two weeks provided an excellent opportunity for students not only to learn about the Olympics but also to engage in a wide range of Olympic events.
In the end, the Gold Medal was awarded to China, the Silver to Japan, and the Bronze to Canada.
Congratulations to all the participants who made the Leinster Olympics a remarkable experience! A special thank you to the teachers who stepped up to make this event happen.

The event featured thrilling matches in both Australian rules football and touch rugby, where students demonstrated their skills and teamwork.
Both teams played exceptionally well, with each match filled with competitive spirit and camaraderie. The players from Leinster exhibited remarkable determination and skill, while the Wiluna team brought their unique strengths to the field.
The atmosphere was electric as supporters cheered for their teams, creating a vibrant community spirit. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in friendly competition and foster relationships between the schools.
Congratulations to all students who participated, and a big thank you to our sponsor RHT, for their continuous support in setting up this event and a huge shoutout to all parents, students, and teachers who also helped to successfully run the event.

"High Schoolers Excel in Teamwork and Skills with Stephen Michael Visit"
From the High School desk:
This week, the high school students experienced a unique and inspiring visit from representatives from the renowned Stephen Michael Foundation. The day was packed with activities designed to enhance teamwork, foster friendships, and strengthen family dynamics leaving a lasting impression on the young minds.
The visit kicked off with an engaging session on the importance of teamwork. Through interactive exercises and candid discussions, students learned the value of collaboration, trust, and effective communication. Personal anecdotes about overcoming challenges and achieving success resonated deeply, encouraging students to support each other both in and out of the classroom. Students were able to put into practice the Leinster values of Teamwork and Resilience.
The day ended with a practical skills workshop, where students had the chance to apply what they had learned. From problem-solving tasks to physical team-building activities, the session was a hit, showcasing the students' dedication and hard work. "It's incredible to see how much effort everyone is putting in. The students at Leinster are really stepping up and working together," remarked Mark.
In addition to the day's events, students are participating in the Leinster Community School Olympics, competing in a variety of sports. From athletics to team sports, the students are demonstrating their physical prowess and Olympic team spirit.
The students are also currently immersed in a multi-modal assessment in their English class, centred around the theme of the Olympics. This comprehensive project requires them to explore various aspects of the games, integrating written reports, oral presentations, and digital media components. This assessment provides the opportunity for students to be creative and practice skills learned about still image, persuasive writing and test their computer acumen!
At Leinster, the high schoolers always demonstrate dedication and perseverance as they work to complete assessments across all their subjects. Whether it's complex Ms Brewster mathematical problems, science experiments, or the English Olympics tasks, each student is putting in tremendous effort to excel academically. Their commitment to learning is evident. This relentless pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence is a testament to the students' hard work and determination to succeed. Ms Brewster, Mrs Ballard and Miss Siney are super proud of them!

Health and Well-being Update
As we step into this new month, we have been having so much fun! We have had budding artists, imaginative play, construction, and heaps of lunch time antics!!
With all the uncertainty happening at this time, there are lots of anxieties and overwhelming feelings affecting our school and wider community. Please make sure you are taking care of each other, check in on your fellow work mates, friends, and community members, and also most importantly make sure you are taking loving care of yourself. Eat well, get some physical activity in, and talk to someone you trust about these big feelings.
Give yourself the love and compassion you show to everyone else. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.
I wish you all the best and know my door is always open if you need a chat or just somebody to listen. Have a fabulous weekend, and please don’t hesitate to contact me via email: Danielle.Ballard@education.wa.edu.au or feel free to contact the school.
