Between Two Schools
Dear RedHawk Families
Thank you to all of the WMS and TMS parents who came to see John Halligan on Wednesday night. We had about 100 parents come to hear Ryan's Story and what John has learned from his family's experience. You can view John's resources here, including the slideshow from last night, his parenting tips, and how to manage your child's smartphones safely through parental controls.
We work on addressing bullying issues every day at both Wredling and Thompson. This truly is an important topic for all of us to continue to work on. We appreciate the time you talk to your child about your expectations for them regarding how they treat others, how bullying is unacceptable, and how they can be an "up-stander" to stop bullying. Please continue that conversation with your child!
Best regards,
Tim and Matt

Exploratory Course Selections
Dear WMS families,
Believe it or not, it's almost time to start picking classes for next year. Thursday, February 29th, current 6th and 7th grade students will be coming home with their exploratory forms for the 2024-2025 school year. Keep a look out for those forms as they are due back to the building by March 8, 2024.
Attendance Matters
Build Routines
Increase Engagement
Provide Access to resources
Support Learning
Routines: A daily attendance routine can help you reduce stress and develop habits that help you keep a job.
Engagement: Being in school gives you a chance to see your friends and build relationships with school staff.
Access to Resources: When you show up to school, you can get access to meals, health services, mental health supports and enrichment activities (sports, clubs, music, afterschool and summer programs, etc.).
Learning: You are more likely to pass classes and graduate from high school when you miss less than a week of school each semester.
Did you know:
*Students should miss no more than 5 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation. *Frequent absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a peer issue or facing some other difficulty. *By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school. *By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores. *Missing 10% or 2 days a month, over the course of a school year, can affect a student's academic success.
Here's is what you can do as a parent/guardian: *If your student is fever free, encourage them to attend school. This is a life skill. As adults, we still go to work with headaches, allergies, and being sore from activities. *If you are struggling to get your student to school or dealing with school refusal, we have staff here to support your family. Reach out to your Student Support Coordinator, Denise Hooks (last names A-Luh) or Melissa Hickman ( last names Lui-Z).

5 Essentials Survey
One of the ways I get feedback is through the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. Each year parents take this survey to let us know how we are doing as a school, and how I am doing as a leader.
Can you please take 10 minutes to complete this survey? I like to get to about 50% of our parents/guardians taking this survey, so the sooner we hit that target, the sooner I can quit asking you!
Here is the link to the survey. It is in Spanish and English.
Please be sure to put in Kane County as our county so you can find Wredling. Also, please read the questions and possible answers carefully as they sometimes mix up the "importance" of the responses.
Thank you in advance for your feedback!
