A Rye Neck Tradition
Junior Senior Day: Though the weather was a bit of a bummer, the events kicked off in the gym at 9:00 a.m. on April 12th with athletic contests. After a lunch break, juniors and senior filed into the PAC for the afternoon festivities. Though history will tell us that the day belonged to the seniors, it really belonged to EVERYBODY! Students were complimented for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm--a day characterized by responsible celebration!! See pics here.
Clubs and Classrooms
- Panther Palooza: On Saturday, April 13th, Rye Neck hosted the 2nd annual Panther Palooza, a track and field invitational that featured 12 teams in all. Our Panthers did beautifully--as always--with the boys team coming in second overall and the girls team coming in third. Special congrats to our Sprint Medley Relay team--Jackson Simon, Abu Usman, Matt Rubin, Micah Taffet--for their 1st place win! And many, many thanks to coaches Scalise, Golden and Sohoo--and to the countless volunteers--who helped make this amazing event happen. See pics here.
- Sweet Music: On Thursday evening, Rye Neck families gathered to enjoy the annual Spring Concert. The Concert Band, the String Ensemble, the Chorus and Theater Arts classes came together to offer a glimpse into their creative worlds. It was an evening in which the enviable talents of Rye Neck's arts students were on display--on the stage and in the new visual arts displays in the lobby! Thanks to Mr. Mattera, Ms. Clarke, Ms. Feinman, Ms. Yeung, our newest member, Mr. Tobey and department chair Ms. Dallow--and especially to all our talented students--for all their hard work. See pics here.
- Binary Bingo: Members of Ms. Swick's AI Club sponsored the first ever Binary Bingo event on Wednesday, April 17th in the CSC. More than 27 middle school students attended, learned how to figure out binary numbers with speed, and won spectacular prizes! See pics here.
- Shoeless: To commence a unit on Social Psychology, students in AP Psych gave up a shoe for a period--as an experiment in obedience. See pic here.
Noteworthy details . . .
- Running and Winning: On April 18th, the League of Women Voters of Westchester County and the American Association of University Women Westchester hosted Running & Winning, a unique opportunity for young women to explore public service as a career. Students met with women elected officials from around the county and created and presented their own campaigns in small groups. Each student took on a "typical" campaign role including candidate, chief of staff, fundraising chair and public affairs. See pic here.
- Lifting Up Westchester Student Essay Contest Awards Ceremony. Two weeks ago, we announced the great news that two Rye Neck students placed first in their age groups in this annual essay contest: Sonali Browning for 9th and 10th grade, and Ella Grann, for 11th and 12th grade. On Sunday, April 14th at a luncheon at Buon Amici Italian restaurant in White Plains, all the winners were celebrated! Our students are standing with Anahaita Kotval, Lifting Up Westchester CEO, in this pic. Rye Neck's two two first place nods are a testament to the efforts and talents of the students, and the dedication of the teachers who support them! See press release here.
